Rossies defence and buried the ball home for Wicklow’s second major. Full-forward Keith Burke had to come off with a hand injury after exchanging pleasantries off the ball with the Rossies full-back.

Dara Henneghan added two points as Roscommon found a bit of momentum. Wicklow were nearly punished when a defender driving out suddenly turned back and laid a loose hand pass cross field that was intercepted by Eoin Corcoran who flicked the ball goal bound, however Sean Campbell brilliantly saved and cleared as the half-time whistle sounded with the scoreboard reading 2-2 to 0-4, in favour of Wicklow.

Each side traded wides on the restart in a scrappy period where no score acrued for almost ten minutes before Jack Downey landed a pointed free for the visitors.

Sean Coffey was collecting great ball around the midfield sector and supplying powerful ball into his forward line. A brace of pointed frees by Matthew Ging after good work by Robbie Miley and Tom Moran, all but put the game to bed.

The management team of Hugh Kenny, Gerry Browne and Mikey Daly at this stage had the luxury of emptying the bench to get a look at the reserves.

Cillian McDonald added a brace of points as the Roscommon resistance folded. Matthew Ging landed Wicklow’s final point in the 57th minute. Roscommon closed out the scoring with points from McDermott and Cathal Feely as the full-time whistle sounded.
