ARKLOW boxers came away from the Wexford Box Cup championships last weekend with six champions crowned after a fantastic event.

This was a great result as 376 boxers, hailing from England, Wales, Scotland, Canada, Nova Scocia and Ireland took part.

Sean Crowley was Arklow’s most explosive winner when he stopped his opponent M Banza in less than a minute with solid right crosses to the chin in the final.

Again, it was Sean’s solid lefts and rights and it was his right uppercut that finished the contest in the second round.

Matthew Tyndall also impressed in his final with Sean Walsh out of Sliabh Lucra, scoring with solid right hooks and left jabs to win unanimously.

Jason Breen was in fine form when he beat his English opponent, Jake Adams, from Townend Police Academy, shaking the English boxer with solid rights and forcing a count in the first round and going on to win unanimously.

In his final, Jason was on top against Victor Florea from Liberty.

Daniel Feokrytov showed brilliant boxing skills when outpointing Jack Magee from the Clane Boxing Club and in the final totally outclassed Aiden Barry from Dungarvan, forcing a count in the third round to win by unanimous decision.

Sean Tyndall was Arklow’s busiest boxer, winning his quarter-final by outpointing Joe Maguire from Dungarvan, using his straight punching to good effect.

In his semi-final, Sean was complete control against Sean Kearney, using a solid jab to keep the Wexford boxer at bay. In the final, Sean had a tough battle with Willie Burke from Na Fianna, but again, Sean’s jab was the deciding factor as the Arklow man became champion.

Philip Feakrotov was unlucky to lose a close decision to Pat Carty from the Raging Bull club. Philiip had won a close decision against Callum Clarke from Rathnew in the quarter-final.

Daniel Fox put in a great performance against European bronze medallist Shane O’Brien from Raging Bull. The Carlow boxer was looking to have a quick win but a solid left right combination from Daniel made him rethink and had to pull out all the stops to win a close decision over the Arklow boxer.

Eimhin McCormack lost a close decision against Nathan O’Brien from Wexford CBS while Owen Moore also was closely beaten, by Mick O’Connor from Cork.

Daniel Byrne had a good win in his quarter-final against Lar Beakhurst from Esker.

In his semi-final, Daniel was ahead after the first round against Cris McDonagh from Navan but had to retire with stomach bug.

Damien Aibologa had a dingdong battle with Tom Murphy from St Ibars before losing on points. Ross Farrell lost to Scottish boy Colm Anderson and Darragh O’Connor to Victor Prokhorchok from Olympic
