Everyone ran a great race and a special congratulations to Jonas Stafford, who received an additional medal for third place in his age category. FOOTBALL

The boys’ under-20 football team had an exciting 3-2 victory over St David’s, Greystones this week, with goals from Jamie Noble (2) and Kian Brady. This followed on from their 1-1 draw with St Killian’s, Bray two weeks ago.

FUTSAL

Well done to all first year boys and girls who participated in the county futsal finals in Woodlands Academy. Both teams gave a good account of themselves and despite not reaching their respective finals, they enjoyed competing against other schools.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Our under-16 boys basketball team suffered their first defeat of the season recently against DLS Churchtown. It was a bit of an off day for the team and despite a much improved performance in the third and fourth quarters, they narrowly lost by four points. Despite this defeat, the team is still well placed to qualify from their group.

EGS HEALTH WEEK

Our annual Health Week took place from October 22 to October 26. As always, most teachers included the theme in their classroom work during the week. In addition to our normal extensive range of extra curricular activities, there was other activities such as lunchtime yoga with Ms Murawski for students to enjoy.

The week culminated in students participating in our annual sponsored walk/run. EGSs School Concert School concert auditions took place this week, in preparation for the concert on December 14, 15 and 16. So be ready to get your tickets after mid-term.

MUCK OF KELLS

On October 20, ten of us, accompanied by Mr Gargan, went to the Muck of Kells adventure race in Kells, Meath. Meeting at the school at 7.15 a.m. was difficult enough along with the cold weather, but by the time we arrived, we were feeling refreshed and ready to run. The race itself was thoroughly enjoyable, with a large variety of obstacles to overcome, over a total of five kilometers. Despite the early wake up, our top finishers placed seventh through 12th place, out of a large number of competitors. Overall, the whole group enjoyed the day out, and the large medals made it all worth it, along with a nice hot drink at the end. EGS GAISCE HIKE

On Friday, September 28, around 9.30 16 students and one teacher headed up to Knockree hostel in Enniskerry on a bus. The youth hostel was on the side of a hill looking over a valley. When we got there we put our bags in and then we got back on the bus where we drove to the start of the Wicklow way.

Our walk started through a field we passed another school on the way and they all said to us ‘the worst is yet to come’ For our lunch break we sat down by the memorial stone to John Mernagh in Glenmalure. Our teacher said we had done around 5K and we still had 15km to go.

When we got to the end of the walk we were hit with the news that we had to walk back to the hostel. When we got back to the hostel we were shown to our rooms, girls in one room and the boys had two rooms. The next thing we did was swimming in the local river which was five minutes down the road. It was very cold, Shannon Mitchell and I were the only girls that got in.

We walked back to the hostel and got in to the nice warm showers and then we sat down to the highlight of the whole day dinner. We then washed up and with Real life – social media. Mark Norse and I played table tennis with the Italian Volunteers. We all went to bed wrecked and got ready for day two of hell.

Day 2 we got our breakfast and cleaned out our room. We waited for the bus and were dropped to Glendalough. We passed the same school again they said the same thing two the worst is yet to come’. We walked up the Spinc and down through the miners’ village. We did 32km altogether.

It was a fantastic experience and brilliant fun. Thanks to sir who encouraged to us keep going. (Written by Dara Owens, Fifth year student)
