Shaw adaptation on Carnew stage

PREPARATIONS are under way for this year’s production of ‘My Fair Lady’ by Carnew Musical Society.

The 52nd production, based on Pygmalion by George B Shaw, will take place in St Brigid’s Hall in Carnew on Monday, November 26, until Saturday, December 1.

Coupled with a great storyline, the show includes favourites such as ‘I could have danced all night’ and ‘Get me to the church on time’.

Directed by Michael Dunbar, the cast includes Sean Hallahan who plays Pickering, Joanne Logue as Eliza Doolittle, Rory Robinson as Henry Higgins, John Young as Alfred P Doolittle and Jennifer Byrne as Mrs Higgins. Mandie O’Keefe will play Mrs Pearce, Eileen Tormey McCabe will be Mrs Eynesford-Hill, Malcolm Byrne takes on the role of Professor Zoltan Karpathy. The cast also includes Padraig D’Arcy as Freddy Eynesford-Hill, Denis Howell as the bartender, Mary Doran as Ms Hopkins and the double act of Harry and Jamie will be played by Paul Doran and Jimmy Spellacy.

The society previously performed ‘My Fair Lady’ in 1994 with society stalwart and Honorary Life Member, Sean Hallahan playing the part of Henry Higgins.

Lar Duffy is musical director after taking a year out last year, and Frances Ryan, who joins for the first time this year, is the choreographer. Vital to the production is backstage crew who include set designer, Tony Barry, set construction crew led by Lar Duffy and stage manager, Tommy Kavanagh. Looking after costumes this year is Jacinta Kavanagh, hair and makeup by Marion O’Toole and lighting is Kevin McEvoy.

Bookings will be open to the public on Monday, November 20, between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, and 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. daily. The number is 087 698 5275.
