Super Turnout at the Allianz fifth and sixth class boys football participation day

- The last outdoor outing in Term 1 of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol in North/East Wicklow concluded on Wednesday, October 24, with the fifth and sixth class boys’ participation blitz which was again held in Bray Emmets GAA Grounds with over 320 boys/32 teams enjoying Gaelic football.

A lovely autumnal morning brought together 32 enthusiastic teams to participate in the last of our ‘participation’ blitzes. A mixture of novice and experienced players made for good football culminating in some well-worked team scores.

This ‘points only’ tournament The St Laurence’s 2 team from the fifth and sixth class football participation day.

encouraged the children to improve on their point scoring via the foot or fist.

A special word of ‘thanks’ goes to Dave Barry and Liam McGraynor (Bray Emmets) and Michael Ó Murchú (Kilcoole) who have consistently allowed us access to their facilities and who have organised the grounds to have the appropriate number of pitches ready for use. Without their help, organisation and co-ordination the children would lose out on valuable playing time.

Finally, to the teachers/coaches, parents, but especially the children, who attended Wednesday’s blitz, a very hearty ‘Maith Sibh’, for an excellent display of sportsmanship and skill.

The 32 participating teams were from the following schools: St. Laurence’s Greystones (3 teams), Kilmacanogue (2), St. Patrick’s Wicklow Town (2), St.Peter’s Bray (1), Ashford (3), Gaelscoil Uí Cheadaigh Brí Chulann (1), Moneystown (1), Newtown (1), St. Brigid’s Greystones(1), Kilcoole
