Goals win it for Bray

- U-16 ‘B’ CAMOGIE FINAL

THE opening ten minutes saw plenty of clearances from the backs, from play and from frees.

Bray scored the opening goal on the ten-minute mark with a short-range shot, straight into the net by Emma Nesbitt.

One of Bray’s best players in the opening quarter, Caoimhe Byrne, had to go off injured after 13 minutes, and was replaced by Laura Doyle.

Avondale’s Sarah Nolan scored a goal and a point within two minutes, to have the half time score, Avondale 1-01, Bray 1-00.

Through the second half, there were plenty of scoring chances, from play and from frees. Both second half scores came in the same minute, with Avondale’s Ciara Clancy striking over a nice point and Bray’s Caoimhe Byrne, who returned in the second half, scoring a scrappy goal, also after 13 minutes.

The backs from both teams did their jobs and kept the score down. Some players to note were: Avondale’s Thea Cullen, for her free taking and clearances, and Ciara Clancy for her fielding, passing and shooting. Bray’s players to note: Sarah Lambe for her free taking and Emma Doyle for fielding and solo runs.

In the four minutes of injury time there were chances by Bray’s Caoimhe Byrne and also good teamwork from Avondale with Ciara Clancy and Sarah Nolan working the old one-two, but were blocked down on one attack and struck wide on another.
