Overhanging trees causing concern

-

CLLR Shay Cullen has raised concerns over the amount of overhanging tree branches and overgrown bushes from private lands which make travelling on rural roads perilous for motorists and pedestrians.

Speaking at last Monday’s meeting of Wicklow Municipal District, Cllr Cullen noted the amount of overgrowth causing disruption, especially in rural areas.

‘We have some fantastic land owners who always maintain the growth on their lands. But then there are the others who totally disregard any notices issued to them, despite the health and safety concerns they are causing. I would ask that the overseers for this district remain very strong about where the problems are,’ said Cllr Cullen.

Cllr John Snell said that he hoped the district was properly prepared for the cold weather which had been predicted, particularly when it comes to gritting roads.

‘We are a unique district, especially in Wicklow town, in that all our housing estates are on hills. During periods of snow or freezing conditions, people can’t get to work and they take their life in their hands just to get from the housing estate onto the roads that are actually gritted. It’s important that we remember theses estates as part of our gritting policy,’ said Cllr Snell.
