Avonmore show at risk without new committee
The upcoming Avonmore Musical Society 40th anniversary show could be cancelled, if a new committee is not elected
The Arklow-based group has called an Emergency General Meeting on Thursday, February 7, at 7.30 p.m. in the Arklow Bay Hotel and is appealing to the local community to get involved and save the show.
‘This EGM has been called as a number of committee members have decided to step down for a variety of reasons. In order for our 40th production of ‘9-5’ to proceed this Easter we need to elect a new committee as soon as possible. Unfortunately if a committee is not formed, we will have no option but to cancel this year’s production and Avonmore Musical Society will be no more,’ a group spokesperson said.
The EGM is open for all past and present members to attend, including junior members. All members over the age of 18 can be nominated or put themselves forward for committee.
All positive input and suggestions will be warmly and openly received with the aim of electing a new committee for 2019.
‘We strongly believe Avonmore Musical Society has been a key aspect of life here in Arklow for the past 40 years. Members have provided shows which have entertained you as well as making you laugh uncontrollably or shed a tear. Avonmore Musical Society is also extremely proud to have provided a stepping stone to many people into the professional music, acting and dancing worlds. Hopefully we will continue to do so for many years to come. So many friendships and relationships have flourished due to this society and we certainly are not going to let it go without a fight,’ the spokesperson added.
Avonmore Musical Society is strongly encouraging all society members, past and present, to attend this EGM and help save the group. Queries in relation to this EGM, should be emailed to avonmoremusicalsociety1@gmail.com
