SHEEP REPORT JANUARY 29:

Another large sale today in Tullow with over 1500 sheep on offer.

Trade improved again by €4 to €5 per head for the heavy hoggets with those hoggets over 55kg today selling from €126 up to a tops of €132 with the majority between €127 and €130 while we saw the lighter hoggets over 50kg selling in the region from €120 up to a tops of €128 and €129 with the majority between €124 and €127.

The lightest store hoggets selling from a base of €80 today but those good 37kg to 40kg selling from €95 up to €108 for 40kg with those 43kg and 44kg pushing up into the mid teens.

Feeding ewes from €20 to €25 with the kg maybe a little improvemen­t by €3 to €4 with the heavier ewes out to a tops today of €132 and a very lively trade for heavy cast ewes.

In the brood ring we had a dispersal sale of 200 mule ewes and they sold to a steady trade with an average price of €155 for all the hoggets 2, 3 & 4 yr olds carrying 2 lambs per ewe.

Ewes with lambs at foot. Numbers starting to increase up to a tops today of €235 for aged ewes with twin lambs with ewes with single lambs selling from a base of €170 with a very strong demand around the ring for ewes with lambs at foot.
