STORYTELLER

Our first, second, TY and fifth year students were treated to storytelling sessions on Tuesday in St Brigid’s Hall by Niall de Burca. Niall is renowned for his original and entertaining stories and he certainly lived up to his reputation.

Students were captivated by Niall’s warm and intriguing stories and his talent for narrative was evident, especially when Carnew, Shillelagh and Aughrim were mentioned as some of the settings. Two of our junior students were invited to participate in one of the stories on stage which was warmly welcomed by the audience.

Students certainly enjoyed the experience and left the sessions enriched and with very important sentiments such as ‘there is nobody more important than me’ and ‘a good word never broke a tooth.’. essential for the future if we want to apply for a mortgage or a loan. We were advised to spend our money maturely and to think and save for our purchases and not spend money that we don’t have. It was a very informative talk and I feel that I learned many life skills that will help me to be financially independent in the future.

LIFE SKILLS

On Thursday, February 7, the Transition Year students had an important talk from a Sales and Marketing team member from the bank of Ireland regarding Curriculum Vitae. The importance of good references was highlighted and they were informed on how best to structure their CV One point that was of significant interest to the girls was the fact that employers can look at their social media accounts investigating their behaviour to see if they will be suitable representatives for the particular company. Something for all of us to remember. The girls agreed that the talk was very relevant and we wish to express our thanks to the bank of Ireland for all their interaction with the Transition Year students this week.

A special thanks to Ms Cody and her team of painters who have really brought the shop to life. It’s great to see the actors finally able to work the stage and see their characters coming to life.

Elsewhere the students enjoyed a presentation from Microsoft on STEM careers which looked specifically about career oportunities in science, engineering and maths.
