TABLE QUIZ
Our local Kilmacanogue Cardiac First Responders will host a Table Quiz on Monday 25th February in Plucks to raise much needed funds. These monies will be used by the Kilmac CFR for the Public Access Defibrillator Scheme with lots of these defibrillators in key locations around the community but the pads need chancing every couple of years weather they are used regularly or not and they are not cheap. A team of 4 costs €40 and there will be lots of Raffle Prizes on the night also. If you would like to enter a team or help out in any way, you can contact Sharon Carey on 087-4161706 or “Lady Pluck” (Caroline) on 086 2586762. The event will start at 8pm and we know the people of Kilmacanogue will give them the great support this voluntary group deserve.
PLUCKS GOLF SOCIETY
The first outing of Plucks Golf Society will take place at 10-30 am on Saturday 16th March in Powerscourt (West Course) Golf Club. Greg O’Donnell is the 2019 Captain and has appointed Jim Messitt as his Vice Captain. There are 6 new members this year which is great to see and members are reminded that they should have paid both their yearly membership of €50 and €40 Green Fees to Greg in advance of the outing no later than Sunday 10th March.
21ST BIRTHDAY
A very happy Birthday wish to Josh Shortt who turned 21 last weekend. Josh celebrated with his family and a special word of congratulations comes from your proud mammy Deirdre, big (little) brother Michael and sister Meghan, friends and neighbours and the mad cousins, the Mahers ! HISTORY LECTURE
Our local Kilmacanogue History Society would like to invite all to attend the launch of their new ‘KHS Oral History Group’ which will take place on Tuesday 19th February at 8pm in the Boardroom of the Glenview Hotel in the Glen of the Downs.
Since KHS was founded in 1997, They have gained plenty recognition for their monthly History Talks and the Societies catchment area now appears to have grown vastly to include: South County Dublin, Arklow, Bray, Enniskerry, Roundwood, Greystones, and Wicklow Town and they understand that some of your members now share joint membership with our Society.
Their latest initiative is the formation of an ‘Oral History Research Group’ with the aim of developing a resource for recording and archiving the memories of living people. Not just the rich and famous but also the everyday memories of everyday people. they believe that these memories are important and if they are not recorded, they will disappear forever. With support from the Heritage Office of the Wicklow County Council, as part of the Creative Wicklow Scheme, the society has begun Training a Research Team and also recording some ‘voices’ of Kilmacanogue and its environs. Please come along to their Project Launch and bring some friends who might share our interest.
FRIDAY DARTS
The William Hill World Darts Championship may be over but for the next couple of weeks, Plucks is the place to be on a Friday evening for competitive action. Trevor Carr was in great form last Friday night and pipped Mark Quinn in the final, and after two nights, poor Mark is getting the Bridesmaid tag as twice a runner up. It is an open competition for all regulars so come along by 8-30 and you could be in with a chance of winning a cash prize.
GAA RETURNS
The Senior team travelled to Rathdrum on Friday night to player their opening Division 1A League game and suffered a 2-point defeat to Avondale. It was a windy night but Kilmacanogue played well in the first half and led by 4 points to 03 at the break and with a little more luck, it could have been 3-04 but some good chances went abegging. Overall Kilmac manager Mark King was happy with the performance and the Kilmacanogue scorers were; Josh O’Callaghan 1-01, Andrew Molloy and Niall Meldon (2 points each) with points from Michael Whelan, Arron Creavin and the returning Craig O’Neill. Final Score; Avondale 2-07 to 1-08.
SOCCER ACTION
Glencormac United’s match v Newtown United was called off last Sunday as a mark of respect to a former Newtown player that sadly passed away on Saturday. This week The Glens are at home to Arklow Town in the last 16 of the Wicklow Cup. Everyone remembers that great day in the Carlisle last June for the Wicklow Cup Final and hopefully, with your support this Sunday, the Glens can take another step closer to repeating that day. Kick Off is 2pm in Ryders.
Training continues for all the Junior teams on Thursday nights at Shoreline on the Southern Cross. Smaller Kids are 6-7 pm with the older ones 7 to 8pm.
