SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE
Bhí coicís gnóthach I Scoil Ghleann Dá Locha Thoir le gairid chun Seachtain na Gaeilge a chéiliúradh. Chuir Daniel Walton, Abigail Whitney, Martha Cox, Tadhg Lord agus Padme Spuirling tús leí nuair a labhair siad don Scoil ar fad ag an tionóil. Labhair Carla Walker , Mark Norse, Ella Richards, Sarah Jennings agus David Yague ag an tionól sinsearach. D’eagraigh Rang 5ú Bliana Ms. Minogue Jones tráth na gceist don Chéad Bhliain ar an Déardaoin seo caite sa halla tionóil agus bhain gach duine a ghabh páirt ann idir thaitneamh agus thairbhe as. Bhí muintir na 5ú bliana i gceannas ar an ócáid ar fad agus gan amhras, b’imeacht an- rathúil ar fad í! Míle buíochais díobh go léir.
Chomhghairdeas le Elena Salazar, Mila Skakie, Lily Guilfoyle, Juliet Kidd agus Grace Hurley a bhuaigh é.Ina theannta sin, bhain an dá rang Idirbhliana sult as cúpla damhsa Gaelach a fhoghlaim i rith na coicíse–Fallaí Luimnigh agus Ionsaí na hInse a d’fhoghlaim siad. Is fíor le rá go bhfuil roinnt damhsóirí tallánnacha againn anseo agus b’fhéidir duine nó beirt a theastaíonn níos mó cleachtaidh uathu ach ní luafaimid aon ainmneacha!
Anuas ar sin, rinne rang 3ú Bliana Ms. Byrne an scrúdú cainte don Teastas Sóisearach agus tá faoiseamh ar gach duine é a bheith thart. Gúímid gach ráth ar ár ranganna Ardteistiméireachta sna béaltrialacha a bheidh ar siúl sa scoil idir an 25ú agus an 27ú de Mhárta.
EGS has had a busy couple of weeks celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge. Daniel Walton, Abigail Whitney, Martha Cox, Tadhg Lord and Padme Spurling started the fortnight off when they spoke to the school in assembly about upcoming events. Carla Walker, Ella Richards, Mark Norse, Sarah Jennings and David Yague spoke at senior assembly. Ms MinogueJones’ fifth Yr class organised a quiz for all first Yr students in the assembly hall and everyone both enjoyed and benefited from it. It was a huge success. Many thanks to all involved.
Congratulations to Elena Salazar, Mila Skakie, Lily Guilfoyle, Juliette Kidd and Grace Hurley, who won it. Along with that, both TY classes enjoyed learning a couple of Irish dances. It’s fair to say that we have some very talented dancers and perhaps one or two who need a little more practice but we won’t name any names.
Also during Seachtain na Gaeilge Ms Byrne’s Junior Cert class did their Junior Cert Oral exam. Everyone is delighted to have that part of the exam behind them. We wish all our Leaving Cert students the best of luck in their oral exams taking place from March 25 to March 27.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations and well done to Archie Bremner in first year who came in the top 50 in the all-Ireland Schools’ Cross Country competition last Saturday in Clongowes College. It was a tough competition against 102 other competitors in his age category. Fantastic result.
Boys Basketball Congratulations to our second year boys basketball team on reaching the semi-finals of the East region plate competition. They had a comprehensive win in their quarter final match against Beneavin College, with Scott Fitzpatrick and Zak Hastie in commanding form.
EGS CAREERS
Ann McLoughlin from KWETB gave a presentation on the wide range of new apprenticeships available and Deirbhle O’Reilly from Trinity College, Dublin, also spoke to senior students about reasons to study at TCD and gave an overview of their courses and facilities.
MINI COMPANIES
Last week two of our mini company groups competed in the Wicklow County Enterprise competition. So Fetch was created by Hannah Carton, Keri Williams, Aisling Baird and Faye Dunne. The group created and sold hand made stylish pet teepees. Our second group Perfect Match was created by Kate O’Hara and Holly Jenkinson. The girls made beautiful dog bandanas and matching scrunchies for the dog owner. Both groups preformed very well on the day and represented the school very well.
TRANSITION YEAR NEWS
This has been a busy week for our TY’s who have been frantically putting the finishing touches to the stage performance of Big Maggie. Paint, props, lines being learnt, sets decorated, lighting fixed and sound being sorted have all led to a frenetic atmosphere in the hall. The performance proper will run next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 20, to March 22. Please do come down and join us for what promises to be a great show full of dark humor and emotion.
Elsewhere the adventure sports group braved the icy waters of the Irish sea for an epic surf session with Hugh Arthur of Brittas Bay surf school while the bake off crew tried their hands at baking the perfect biccy.
The horticulture group are taking a very proactive approach to environmental protection by going out each week armed with litter pickers and bin bags and doing a deep spring clean of the local high ways and byways.
Finally this week the TY’s raised their collective voices and joined a host of other schools across the country in protesting for climate action. a large number marched down the county council buildings with placards and slogans a plenty. It is encouraging to see you people demonstrating such passion for the environme.nt.
