Kilcoole run riot over a disappointing Coolkenno

-

at Ballinakill

The opening 10 minutes was a teak tough affair, as both teams felt each other out, in the hope that chinks would show in the others armour.

Kilcoole were first off the mark through Jordan Murray who slotted a 45 with confidence. They added to this with scores from Patrick Woods and Conor Scullion.

Collkenno were probing also, with Cormac Byrne slotting a free and Ruari Tompkins adding a point from play. Coolkenno were then awarded a penalty when Padraic Waterton was hauled down in the box and Ruari Tompkins dispatched with aplomb. This proved to be a turning point in the game, as it seemed to poke the bear, and how Kilcoole roared in response.

They answered immediately with looping effort at goal, hitting the net from Jordan Murray.

This was the first of six goals for the Goosebank men in the first half.

Further goals came from Conor Scullion, Eoin O’Brien, Gary Coady and two from Patrick Woods. Scullion and Coady also added points to their tally before the half, to leave a huge gap at half-time.

Cormac Byrne and Ruari Tompkins added scores for Coolkenno before the break, but the writing was on the wall for the Carlow border club.

Half-time score – Coolkenno 1-4, Kilcoole 6-6.

The second half turned in to a bit of a procession for Kilcoole as they cruised to the final.

After the break they added five points on the bounce before Coolkenno could answer. All the main protagonists from the first half continuing where they left off – Murray, O’Brien and Coady.

O’Brien added his second goal of the game late in the game to finish the plucky Coolkenno off. Murray, Woods and James Scullion added points for Kilcoole, who look good to go one step further as they head for the Junior ‘C’ decider.
