Biggest weekend of the football year is finally upon us
IT’S a bumper weekend for football finals in Wicklow with the Senior, Intermediate, Junior ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ deciders up for grabs over two days.
The big one is the meeting of St Patrick’s and AGB with Casey O’Brien’s men going for a double, a feat not achieved in the club since 1961.
Standing in their way are AGB who are hoping to bring back the first title to the town of Arklow since 1963.
It promises to be a pure game of football and a huge crowd is expected in Aughrim for the clash.
Before that game is the meeting of Dunlavin and Kilmacanogue in the Intermediate decider at 1.30 with another game of flowing football expected as Jonathan Daniels men look to bring home the glory by defeating Mark King’s Kilmacanogue.
Both sides possess serious footballing talent and a high-scoring affair is very likely.
The Junior ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ finals have been moved out of Aughrimdue to the weather conditions of recent weeks.
The fascinating battle between Blessington and An Tochar will take place in Ashford at 3.45pm on Saturday afternoon.
Can the Roundwood men put a stop to the awesome Blessington gallop?
Prior to that game sees the meeting of Avoca and Enniskerry in the Philip Doyle Junior ‘B’ decidr while St Pat’s and Kilcoole meet in Pearse’s Park at 1pm in the Junior ‘C’ final.
In other news, Davy Burke was given his first championship fixture this week with news that Wicklow have drawn Wexford in the opening round of the Leinster championship for 2020.
The Confey native will feel that this is a game very much there for the taking providing that he gets up and running without any hitches.
No news of selectors at the time of going to print.
