PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION AGM
The AGM of the parents’ association will take place on Thursday, October 10, at 7.30 p.m. in the school. All parents of students in the school are welcome to attend. During the AGM parents will have an opportunity to join the parents’ council which meets around five times in the school year to reflect on the life of the school and make contributions which may enhance student experiences. We would encourage all who are interested to attend and join us in planning our school. You can also follow us on Facebook.
HELL AND BACK
On Wednesday, October 2, 60 TY students travelled to Kilruddery Estate in Bray to take part in Hell and Back. This gruelling event, over 7.5km, challenged students’ tenacity, physical endurance, teamwork and communication skills, as they navigated the many obstacles including water, heights, walls, ropes and lots of muck. For many, this was their first experience of an event of this nature and the quiet buses back to school were a testament of the effort put in by everyone on the day. Well done to all participants.
SCHOOL MASS
Many thanks to the music and RE Departments for preparing the service last Wednesday, October 2. It is always a lovely occasion and gives the students the opportunity to gather and share time together within a setting that aims to provoke reflection. Thanks to Ms Fitzgerald for her words which students will take different meanings from and apply to their work/attitude. Many thanks thanks to Fr Donal for celebrating the Mass.
ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME
Students, teachers and parents joined our international guests on Friday night, September 27, in the Golf Club for the final celebratory dinner to mark the end of the Erasmus+ week of activities. Thanks to Gillian and Sonya for their work decorating the area for our guests. After a beautiful meal, Finn Egan Barron, Genevieve Codd White, Ben Sweeney and Mr Donoghue spoke briefly about the project, to thank everyone and to wish everyone a safe journey home. Cllr Irene Winters came, again, to present certificates to the participants and stayed for the rest of the evening.
The gathering was entertained by musicians, singers and dancers from the school who were simply outstanding. The room was in awe of the talent on display. Thanks to Ms Mannion for all her efforts preparing the group. Thanks, also, to Ms Gill, who created a magnificent cake decorated with the theme of the sea.
Several parents commented on the wonderful experience their children had and are very grateful to the school for the opportunities presented by the project. Thanks to everyone who took part in activities, substituted for teachers and facilitated students and teachers visiting your classes. It was a great team effort.
JUNIOR BASKETBALL
The under-16s were out in their second league game vs Woodbrook College Bray last week. Woodbrook started well, scoring two or three unanswered baskets. Adam Byrne got CCM off the mark by turning over the ball on defence and scoring a few baskets on the counter. Peter Dunne tagged on a few scores but Woodbrook kept daylight between the two sides to lead by 10 at half time. In the third quarter, CCM started to come into the game. With Mikey Merrigan, Ruairí Jenkinson and Adam Byrne sinking baskets there was only four points between the teams. Woodbrook dealt a killer blow with about four seconds left on the clock in the third quarter when their point guard landed a three pointer from just inside the half way line. Woodbrook drove on in the last quarter and won with a 12point victory. Well done to the team on a tremendous effort.
SENIOR BOYS’ HURLING
The Wicklow Schools’ Senior Boys’ Hurling team had their first match of the championship on Wednesday, September 25, against Bridgetown College. CCM was represented by Killian Hogan, Oisin O’Neill, T J O’Neill and Charlie Cruise. The game was close from the start, with both teams getting on the score board early in the game. Bridgetown managed to score three goals before half time to leave CCM with a tough battle in the second. CCM started the second half with a very impressive performance scoring two goals but it wasn’t enough to catch up on Bridgetown College, who stayed ahead to get the win. Well done to all involved.
SENIOR GIRLS’ GAA
The girls had their second match of the league on Monday against St David’s in Greystones. The girls battled hard in tough weather conditions in a very tight match. The weather did not stop the girls playing some excellent football throughout the game but lost in the end in a very close match to St David’s. Well done to the team on a great effort.
U-14 LEINSTER FOOTBALL
Hard luck to the under-14 team who found a St Kevin’s Dunlavin team too strong. The Dunlavin team has carried on all the attributes of last year’s first year team and this will make them a force to be reckoned with in the latter stage of this Leinster competition. Well done to the lads who still work hard to meet the challenge in front of them but, overall, it was to be the Dunlavin lads’ day.
