GLITZ GALORE AT AN TOCHAR OSCARZ
IT was ‘Oscarz’ time for An Tochar GAA Club on Saturday as the Parkview Hotel in Newtown played host to a night of glamour and glitz.
The club was founded in 1885 and decided to hold a fundraising ‘Oscarz’ event in order to manage and maintain the smooth running of the organisation for the future, alongside any plans to expand.
The event brought huge excitement to the village of
Roundwood as over 60 volunteer actors signed up to try their hand at a spot of acting. Auditions were held for ‘The Hangover’, ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Fatal Attraction’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Fr Ted Hairy Babies’ and ‘Sister Act’. The novice actors practiced each week, picked some spectacular locations, found props in their attic and lured some family pets onto the big screen.
Each of the movies were screened at Saturday’s ‘Oscarz’ exclusive. The cast members graced the red carpet in true Hollywood glamour, with some winning ‘Oscarz’ for Best Actor, Best Actress and so on.
Awards on the night were Best Movie – Bridesmaids; Best Actor – Conor Davis; Best Actress – Katie Coleman; Best Supporting Actor – Peter Byrne; Best Supporting Actress – Liadh Cronin; Best Producer – Niamh O’Connor for ‘Fatal Attraction’; Best Filming Moment – ‘Sister Act’ for the ice-cream scene; Best Location – ‘The Hangover’ for the Glendalough Hotel in
Las Vegas; Best Scene – ‘Fatal Attraction’ for the bathroom scene; Best On-Screen Relationship – ‘The Godfather’ for Don Corleone and Yolande; Special Recognition Award – Connie Byrne as Mrs Doyle in ‘Fr Ted’; Highest Grossing Movie – ‘Forrest Gump’; Highest Individual Fundraiser – Martin Byrne.
An Tochar would like to thank everyone who lent their support to the fundraiser, as well as main sponsors ION Solutions and the sponsors of the different awards.
