Falcon Sea Cubs channel flour power in bake off
THE Falcon Cubs proved themselves to be star bakers at their annual bake off.
There was a fantastic atmosphere in the Scout Hall last Thursday night as the Falcon Cubs and their families gathered for the competition. The cubs had earlier taken part in a hike to pick apples to use in their spectacular bakes. They then spent some time designing their creations before getting down to work in the kitchen.
Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney GAA Club players Ciaran Hyland, Darragh Culleton and
Darragh Fitzgerald and one of the club’s coaches, Eugene Bentley, had the very difficult task of choosing the winners. To help them, they had the job of tasting every one of the fantastic bakes. They enjoyed everything from apple pies to ice-cream and cakes baked by the 38 Falcon Cubs with help from their families. The bakers themselves also had the chance to sample the treats on offer during the evening.
‘There was great excitement and the food was fantastic,’ said Seán Ó Conchúir, one of the organisers. ‘Next year, I think we’ll have to hold interviews for the judges.’
Sean Coey was presented with the overall trophy on the night. Olivia Coey won the award for the most imaginative bake, while Ciara Gavaghan took the prize for the best use of apples.
Organisers thanked parents and families for supporting the event which aims to encourage the cubs to bake and spend time in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, as part of this year’s Arklow Hallowe’en festival, a ghoulish children’s disco will take place in the Scout Hall on Sunday, October 27, from 6.30 p.m.
