Night of musical magic hits all the right notes
FANS of musicals were treated to a spectacular celebration of 40 years of the Avonmore Musical Society.
Arklow Bay Hotel hosted the night of entertainment to mark the society’s 40th anniversary with a gala concert. AIMS President Seamus Power was among the guests who gathered to enjoy this special night.
The audience were treated to songs from hit musicals including Little Shop of Horrors, Miss Saigon, New World, Stalker and Les Miserables. Solo performances on the night were by Naoimh Penston, Jennifer Lee, Patrick Bracken, Brendan Kenny, Sharon Kenny, Rachel Kealy, Tomas Byrne, Elaine Sweeney, Chris Currid, Eimear Harper, Olivia Sheehy, Emily Davis, Aly Coyne, Bill Stafford, Avril O’Toole and Joanne Logue.
They were supported by the society’s chorus. While there were too many highlights on the night to mention them all, the performance by long-standing member James Kearon was particularly well-received.
Cor na hAbhann also wowed the crowd with their special guest appearance on the night.
Organisers thanked the Arklow Bay Hotel for the use of the venue and all of the sponsors of spot prizes. They also extended a special thanks to anyone who helped out or attended this celebration of the Avonmore Musical Society and the committee.
Attention will now turn to preparations for the society’s 40th show. Rehearsals for Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat will get under way in November.
The show will be staged in St Mary’s College next April.
