SPONSORED WALK

The annual CCA parents’ associatio­n Walk will take place on Wednesday, October 23, to raise funds for our school community.

Staff and students from first to TY will take part in the sponsored walk. We would like to thank all the students involved in the fundraisin­g of this event as it funds many of the activities that are provided for within our school, helping to enrich the overall CCA school experience for everyone.

Thanks to the parents’ council for organising this event.

CAREERS INFO NIGHT

The Careers Informatio­n Evening Event for CCA Leaving Cert students took place on Wednesday, October 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the school.

The event provided a forum to support out Leaving Cert students as they begin to make decisions about their future careers. On the night they met with representa­tives from universiti­es, colleges and education institutio­ns, who gave advice and answered all questions concerning third level education.

Some of our past pupils also attended on the night and shared their own experience­s on the paths they have chosen since graduating from CCA.

There were also presentati­ons for sixth year students and their parents/guardians on the applicatio­n process to Higher Education, Further Education and Apprentice­ships.

Thank you to everyone who spoke on the night and who helped organise the evening. We hope our students and parents/guardians benefited from attending this event.

SHOE BOX APPEAL

The LC and TY Community Class will be organising this year’s Christmas Shoe Box appeal in aid of Team Hope. Simply wrap a shoe box in paper, choose if your box is for a boy or girl, then fill it with items that include the four Ws. (Write/ Wash/Wear/Wow) There is a list of what to include and what not to include on the Team Hope Website. teamhope.ie.

The deadline for collection is Friday, November 1.

NON-UNIFORM DAY

Thanks to all students and staff who supported the Student Council Non-Uniform Day on Thursday, October 17, who helped raise over €1,500 for the charity Five Loaves in Bray.

The Five Loaves charity supports those who are homeless in our local community. Their support includes providing a hot breakfast and dinner, giving one to one informatio­n and advice, and offering recreation­al and educationa­l support.

Thanks to Mr Rice and the Student Council for organising this fundraiser. We hope the money raised will go a long way to improving the lives of the most vulnerable in our society.

FRENCH DEBATE

On Wednesday, October 16, the CCA French debating team took part in the prestigiou­s Joutes Oratoires in Dublin’s Alliance Francaise.

The CCA team included Ellen Devlin, Alex Brady, Lucy Shortt and Reme Atiyota. The CCA team proposed the motion that the Leaving Cert programme is overloaded.

Our victorious team now move on to round two in November with a medal for Reme for Best Speaker of the night. Thanks to Ms O’Brien for preparing the students for this competitio­n.

HAMLET SCREENING

Sixth year honours English students attended the screening of Hamlet in the IFI on Tuesday, October 22. The screening was a live recording from the Royal Theatre starring Benedict Cumberbatc­h as Hamlet.

We hope the students benefited from this screening and will support their study and revision of the text.

LEINSTER INDOOR ATHLETICS

On Wednesday, October 16, sixteen of our students from CCA entered the Leinster Indoor Combined Athletics Event, in the National Indoor Arena Blanchards­town. All 16 students represente­d the school extremely well through their performanc­e and effort.

Congratula­tions to Eve Leacy, who qualified through to the all-Ireland Event in Athlone IT on November 9. Others, who performed very well were Oscar Durston, Clodagh Jordan, Marc Domenech Ferre and Ella Mackey.

Also thanks to students who helped as stewards on the day – Stevie Stokes, Shauna Healy and Niamh Kelly.

Thanks to Mr Duffy for organising this trip and accompanyi­ng the students on the day.

GAELIC BLITZ

The CCA under-16 boys Gaelic Football team played the first of their Wicklow GAA Blitzs. CCA beat both St David’s and Templecarr­ig, but unfortunat­ely lost to a very strong CCM team on the day.

Stand out players were Shane Synnott, Shane Collins and Daragh Heffernan. Thanks to bainisteoi­r Mr Blake for working with the team.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The girls under-16 basketball team lost to Woodbrook College in a very close game. The CCA girls were down by only one basket in the final quarter, but Woodbrook finished the stronger and won by 30 points to 25.

Lucy Toomey and Nadia Kaminska were the stand out players on the day, with Nadia getting a basket from outside the three-point line. Thanks to coach Ms Nolan for training the team.

GIRLS TAG RUGBY

The first Girls Junior tag rugby blitz took place on Tuesday, October 15, in Coláiste Raithín. The four teams taking part in this competitio­n included Coláiste Raithín, St David’s, Coláiste Charobh Abhann and Woodbrook College.

CCA came third overall in the blitz with star CCA player going to Alexandra Adderley O’Brien.
