NMH PRESENTATION

A very special moment took place last Wednesday when members of the Messett family presented a cheque to the National Maternity Hospital. The family, with the help of a lot of people managed to raise €33.5K which has already been used to buy a new EEG machine and upgrade the older machines in the neonatal intensive care unit.

The Messett family raised this money in memory of the late Bobby Messett, who decided a few years back, when his granddaughter Poppie was receiving care in Holles St, that he would raise money for much needed equipment for the hospital. Sadly, Bobby was not able to do this himself before his life was so terribly and cruelly ended but his family made a commitment that his dream would come through and last Wednesday, in his memory, this massive amount of money was raised.

Special thanks to all who helped with raising this massive amount including Doran’s Pharmacy, Korfitness, Karl O’Rourke, Bobby’s many friends in Glencormac United FC and Bray

Wheelers Cycling Club, The Kilmacanogue Horse Show Committee, Mark Kinsella Funeral Services, Zurich Life, Christine Collard, Diane Flanagan and everyone else who sponsored and took part in the many fundraising events.

Finally, well done to Bobby’s partner Natalie Armstrong, Jackie and Demi Leigh Messett, Sister Paula and Bobby’s niece Hayley plus family Friend Laura Nolan, who undertook a massive walk of the Camino in Spain last year to raise so much.

KILBRIDE PARISH FASHION SHOW

The fashion show that was cancelled recently due to weather conditions will now be held on Thursday, November 14, in Fisher’s, Newtownmountkennedy at 7.30 p.m. Tickets €15 available from Georgina at 087 6716745. Guests attending can also avail of a 10% discount on Fishers clothing on the night. The committee apologize to everyone for the cancelation of the annual dinner dance last Friday night at short notice. Due to ticket sales, it was just not feasible to run the event which was such a pity.

HISTORY LECTURE

Following on from an excellent lecture in October by Seán J Murphy MA on Lt. Edward Hempenstall of the Wicklow Militia 1790s Era, the members of the Kilmacanogue History Society are eagerly awaiting the November lecture which will take place on Tuesday, November 5.

Titled ‘The Hunt for the Spanish Armada Falcon Blanco’, the speaker will be Philip Boucher-Hayes, the well-known RTÉ TV and Radio broadcaster, Irish journalist and author. In this talk, he will take us through the original research and archive trawl, that shaped the yearlong treasure hunt described in the critically acclaimed podcast series ‘Treasure Island: The Hunt for the Falcon Blanco.’.

He also personally dived at the site himself in a bid to solve a 430-year mystery of what happened the 20 Armada ships and their alleged treasure that have never been found. The venue for the talk is the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m. and all are welcome.

SOCCER ACTION

The Glencormac United under-10s had a big win at home to Avonmore. The goal scoreres were Darragh Murray, Killian Kearns, Tadgh Reynolds, James Ward and Ben Merrigan. The whole squad played really well with Killian the star man on view.

The under-13s drew 0-0 at home to Sporting Greystones. This was not one of their better displays sadly so extra work needed inn training.

The seniors had a good 4-3 win at home to Carnew to stay top of the Premier Division. James Delahunty scored a hattrick with Josh O’Callaghan also scoring a great half Volley to put the Glens 4-1 up but Carnew rallied to make it 4-3 and even missed a penalty at the end. The game is covered in more detail in the sports pages of this paper.

Two of the clubs under-14 players played for Wicklow on Sunday evening in Arklow. Wicklow beat Carlow 2-1 and Kieren Griffith scored while Charlie Ward was very impressive in the goals. Well done, lads.
