THEY say the only constant in life is change. The pace of change is increasingly rapid and it is everywhere.

Our society is changing. Entire Industries are being disrupted in ways we would never have imagined. Organisational culture is changing. Technology is rapidly changing how we work and what we do. The amount of time we spend on screens is increasing. We are processing 9 times the amount of information that we were even a few years ago at work.

Change is literally everywhere and we are under pressure to be leaders and stay ahead in an increasingly fast paced dynamic world.

And yet our basic nature remains the same as it was 25 years ago – before the internet began. We have the same needs and wants for health, happiness and wellbeing.

Here are 6 tips to help you be ready for and better able to drive, embrace and handle change in work and life.

1. Find your inner stillness on a daily basis. The busier your mind is during times of change the more likely you will feel stressed and overwhelmed. When we can achieve inner calm even for a few moments through relaxation, meditation or mindfulness practices daily, we are better equipped to anticipate the opportunities and handle the storms and changes in the weather in our daily work life.

2. Remember that change is constant and always has a price. Nowadays, people have several careers and jobs in their lifetime. Technology is changing how we work and what we do. Change will happen whether we like it or not. Sometimes it pushes us in new directions which can be challenging. On a positive note, change ensures we don’t get bored and that we keep learning and grow. Some people will benefit from given changes and some will be adversely affected by them. It is important to be clear and honest about change and then to move ahead positively and with an open mindset. When we resist change, we make the change and our lives more difficult.

3. Be positive. It is important to be optimistic about what is to come. A positive mindset will see the opportunities the change brings and other ones in general more easily. A negative mindset will generate fear and frustration which will only add to your stress and limit your outlook. Change will always bring some discomfort. Expect that.

4. Take time to reflect. Take time to slow down and think about how the changes affect you and people around you. Be honest. What is the price to you? What can you do to make the change easier? Think about what new skills are needed. What support do you need and how can you help others?

5. Keep Learning and Growing. Learning new things keeps our minds open, fresh and ready for life. You will more easily see the opportunities around you. If you keep doing the same thing, you will get the same results or less. Change is part of growth.

6. Communicate. Speak to others. Ask questions. Work out strategies to address and minimize the challenges that arise. Good communications will engage the most people in the process and make things as good as they can be so all involved are on board and ready to drive / implement and handle the changes.

Wish you a wonderful week.
