WICKLOW RFC’s under-18s, like the Senior ladies last week, were on the road away this week to Tullamore. This was the first game of this years Leinster League and you don’t get a tougher start than away to last years winnerss.

The Wicklow girls though were undaunted and started by far the stronger and piled the pressure on the home team. The pressure soon bore fruit with a training ground move off a lineout going through the hands of the backline for the Wicklow winger to score in the corner.

The Wicklow girls soon scored again when a wayward kick by Tulamore was gathered by the Wicklow winger who ranit in a try under the posts from deep in her own half this was converted to leave the Wicklow girls 12-0 ahead early in the first half.

The Offaly girls are not the current league champions for nothing and there big powerful pack were not about to let this game get away from them on their own turf. They counter rucked well and forced a large number of turnovers and penalties and from the subsequent pressure they rumbled over for two tries which were converted to leave the score at 12-12 going into the break.

Wicklow again drew first blood in the second half when another good break from the backs put their noses ahead on the scoreboard 17-12.

Wicklow finished the stronger and with quick ruck ball and fast hands through the backs the visitors struck twice in quick succession for two converted tries to leave the final score 31-17 for a fine win on the road.
