CHARITY WALK
Thanks to the parents’ council who helped organise the annual CCA Sponsored walk this year. Students from first to third year completed the walk from the school to the Breeches on Wednesday, October 23, and enjoyed the fine weather and sea air along the way.
The 10km walk takes place every year and all funds raised goes towards student led activities within the school. Thanks to all parents, staff, students and the local community who sponsored the walk and who helped make this such an enjoyable event for all.
NON-UNIFORM DAY
The CCA Student Council presented Tommy Gordon from Five Loaves, in Bray with a cheque for €1,700 on Thursday, October 24. Five Loaves is a charity who support the homeless community in the Wicklow area and were delighted to receive the check from the CCA Student Council, who raised the money through a non-uniform day which was held last week.
We thank you all for your contribution in supporting this very worthy cause and to Mr Rice and the Student Council for helping raise such a large amount to support Five Loaves in the vital work they do.
SHOE BOX APPEAL
The CCA TY Community Class and LCA students organised this year’s CCA shoe box appeal in aid of Team Hope. Each year Team Hope collect over a quarter of a million shoes boxes packed with useful items for children coming from Eastern Europe and countries in African countries which are some of the poorest countries in the world.
The children receiving the gifts may not receive anything else this Christmas, so sending a shoe box is a wonderful way of making a real difference. The items included in the shoe box include writing materials, clothes, washables, and ‘wow’ items like sweets, dolls, teddys and stickers.
Thank you to the CCA students and teachers who organised this great project and to everyone who made a shoe box this year.

POETRY ALOUD
CCA had another great participation in the Poetry Aloud Competition this year, with the first stage taking place on Friday, October 18. The students reciting this year were Reme Atiyota, Lucy Phipps Rooney, Sophie Heaton, Alex Brady, Lucy Shortt, Nicole Dutton, Jeremiah Scott, Lauren Heatly, Holly Doyle, Elana Munez and Ellie Hanway.
Reme (who reached the final last year) and Alex progressed to the semi-finals of the competition, which will take place in November. Ms O’Driscoll said she was very proud of all the students who competed. We wish both Reme and Alex the very best for the semi-finals.
CROSS COUNTRY
On Tuesday, October 22, CCAs Cross Country team took part in the second event on the Wicklow Schools Cross Country calendar. This proved to be a successful trip with several medals returning to CCA.
First up was the first year girls race where Aoibhinn Keating (third place) and Amber Scully (fifth place) won individual medals, while CCA won silver in the team event with a second place finish overall. The team consisted of Aoibhinn Keating, Amber Scully, Sadhbh Fitzmaurice, Fiana Doyle, Ella Ryan and Aisling Doyle.
In first year boys category, a strong performance from Oscar Durston saw him finish in second place claiming silver. Denis Leacy and Finn Larkin also performed very well in this race.
In the second year girls race the CCA girls finished in third place in the team event after great performances from Nina Wolohan, Alison O’Toole, Clodagh Jordan, Ava Doyle, Moya Kelly and Charlotte Pelz-Olufade. Charlotte also won an individual medal in this race finishing in fifth place overall.
The next race involved third, TY and Senior Girls running the same race, but competing within their own category. CCA collected more medals in this race with Angie Prendergast finishing second in the third year girls and Stevie Stokes receiving bronze in the Senior Girls category.
Aaron Cawley received a bronze medal after a strong showing in the second year boys race, while Deacon Greene, Jack Daly and Martin Kelly also performed well. The strong performance of all four students ensured that CCA won Bronze in the second year boys’ team event.
In the last race of the day Cole Kelly picked up a bronze in the Senior Boys, while Aaron Killick was unlucky not to place after a great performance in his race. Adam Hussey and Luke Fitzpatrick also ran very well in this race.
Well done to all the students who represented CCA at this event and to Mr Duffy, who organised the CCA athletics team.
GIRLS FOOTBALL BLITZ
The first year girls’ football team played a blitz competition in Ballinakill
on Thursday, October 24.
CCA played three games on the day against Blessington, St David’s and St Kevin’s Community College. The CCA players of the blitz were Jessica Lynch and Grace Cullen. Well done to bainisteoir Ms Miley and all the team.
BOYS FOOTBALL
The first year Boys GAA team played Templecarrig at home on Tuesday, October 22. CCA started the better team but couldn’t get ahead on the score board till the tenth minute, with two quick points by Joe Heatly.
Templecarrig responded by scoring a goal after some neat play, and the visitors’ confidence grew. The CCA defence were fantastic and met everything Templecarrig threw at them, led by a Man the of the match performance by Dale Van Dalen, who kept them to a single score in the opening half.
Templecarrig began the second half the stronger team and rattled off 1: two without reply. The option to drop their heads would have been an easy one to take, but CCA showed tremendous courage and drove on again, scoring 4: two without reply with goals from Daire, Joe and points from Ryan Harrison to settle the contest.
This was a fantastic team effort from all players and comes on the back of a tremendous team effort to go through the Leinster Blitz competition unbeaten last week.
BOYS SOCCER
The Senior Boys soccer team lost 4-3 AET in the Leinster Senior Cup Round two to Templecarrig. A great end to end game finished 3-3 in normal time, with Jack Elliott scoring twice and Josh Odlum netting the third. Unfortunately, a last minute winner from Templecarrig prevented CCA from an exciting penalty shootout which their performance merited.
Man of the match was awarded to Adam Farrell. CCA now look forward to the Wicklow/Wexford league campaign after midterm.
BOYS GAELIC FOOTBALL
On Friday, October 18, CCAs participation in the Senior A championship ended abruptly. A very strong Scoil Bhríde played with the hill and a lot more conviction in the first half and gained what proved to be an insurmountable lead by half-time.
CCA improved their performance in the second half, but the damage was already done. Bainisteoir Mr Maher commended CCA effort and their willingness to compete till the final whistle. CCA now turn their sights to the B Championship after mid-term.
