Save Our Pumpkin is a real family treat

- By EIMEAR DODD

THERE was pumpkin to talk about last Tuesday at Arklow Library.

The library hosted a Hallowe’en themed ‘Save the Pumpkin’ event which was well-attended by families and young people.

Participants had the chance to take part in pumpkin carving and colouring competitions. The standard of entries was described as fantastic and the winning pumpkin from the carving competition was dubbed Donald Trumpkin.

Scarily good costumes were admired during the ‘fancy dress walk’ organised by Wicklow Local Sports Partnership.

Reducing food waste by saving the pumpkin was the theme for the afternoon’s entertainment and the County Wicklow Partnership HSE, Healthy Food Made Easy Programme shared recipes for delicious pumpkin muffins, pumpkin soup and even pumpkin chilli.

The event itself was organised by CWP, Safe Food and the Community Food Initiative.

Organisers thanked to Wicklow County Council and MABS for sharing lots of useful information on reducing food waste and budgeting for meal.

The CWP Community Tobacco Cessation project also shared information about the HSE Quit smoking service and the smoke free homes initiative.

Thanks were also extended to Arklow Municipal District and the staff at Arklow Library for hosting and assisting with the event.

Further information about free courses with the Healthy Food Made Easy Programme is available by contacting Anne Kavanagh at 0402 20955 or 087 1500234.
