Sean through to senior final

Crowley toppled Houlihan

- BOXING

ARKLOW’S Sean Crowley won his way into the final of the National Senior Boxing finals last Friday when he defeated Danno Houlihan from Kilcullen on a 5-0 decision.

The first round was a close affair when both boxers scored with solid right hands. In the second round Sean took control, scoring with left and rights to the head and solid body punches.

Sean’s footwork was brilliant, slipping left and then right, and he hurt the Kildare boxer time and again.

In the third Sean was again in complete control and had the Kildare boy in trouble from constant two-handed attacks.

Sean’s right uppercut was a major punch during the bout. Danno looked in real trouble as he spat out his gumshield near the end to get himself a rest.

In the quarter-final Sean beat Philip Hickey from Paulstown on points, 5-0 in a tough battle. In the first round Sean was in control, scoring with solid left and rights to the head, following up with hard left and right hooks to the body which visibly hurt the Kilkenny boy.

Again, Sean’s uppercut was a major punch in the bout. Hickey took counts in the first and third rounds and he was lucky to survive. until the end

Sean will meet Thomas Myers from Sligo City on Friday next, November 8. Myers is a noted puncher so it should be a cracking bout with Sean’s footwork playing a big part in the outcome

Arklow’s up and coming young lady, Niamh Molloy, was in action with the Leinster Ladies team in Preston last weekend. Niamh was extremely unlucky to lose a split decision 3-2 after attacking throughout the three rounds

Arklow are staging their annual sponsored tournament in the Gym on Saturday, December 14.

The club will host Crumlin B.C. and it is expected that the Dublin club will match most of Arklow’s top ladies and gents in top class bouts. This is the club’s main sponsored event and they would welcome all support.
