HISTORY SOCIETY LECTURE

The Kilmacanog­ue History Society are pleased to announce that their postponed talk is now re-scheduled for Wednesday, November 13. It will commence at 8 p.m. in the Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs.

This very interestin­g lecture describes the hunt for the Spanish Armada Falcon Blanco. The guest speaker on the night is Philip Boucher-Hayes. He will take everyone through the original research and archive trawl that shaped this year-long treasure hunt.

Philip Boucher-Hayes is an Irish journalist, broadcaste­r and author whose work appears most frequently on RTÉ Television and Radio. Much of his work focuses on the climate crisis, social justice issues, the environmen­t, food and farming. He is the presenter of many noted TV documentar­ies and series, ‘What’s Ireland Eating?’ and ‘The Du Plantier Case’ plus ‘What Are You Working For’? On RTÉ Radio he is a reporter on Drivetime and the presenter of the critically acclaimed podcast series Treasure Island: the hunt for the Falcon Blanco . All in the society look forward to seeing all their members on the night and please bring a friend as everyone is welcome.

KILBRIDE PARISH FASHION SHOW

The Fashion show in aid of Kilbride Parish Church is fast approachin­g and will be held on Thursday, November 14, in Fisher’s, Newtownmou­ntkennedy at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are priced at just €15 and are available from Georgina at 087 6716745. Guests attending can also avail of a 10% discount on Fishers clothing on the night.

Our local Kilmacanog­ue GAA are hosting a Lipsync Fundraiser in the Parkview Hotel, Newtownmou­ntkennedy this Saturday, November 9.

The event promises to be a night to remember and still some tickets remaining for the event at €25 and are available from either Plucks, Jackie Fox 086 8494655 or Melanie Lee 086 4086597. You can also purchase your tickets up in the clubhouse this Friday night between 7.10 p.m.

CLAN NA GAEL NEWS

The under-20s are having it tough in the Wicklow under-20 Championsh­ip at the moment. Last Sunday they travelled to Ashford to face Pearse Gaels which is a mix of Kilcoole, Newtown and Ashford and it finished 4-18 to 0-3 in favour of Pearse Gaels.

Clan Na Gael is a mix of just Kilmacanog­ue and Enniskerry Parishes and some of the Enniskerry lads are recovering from injury at the moment but it’s a very young team and they will all learn from this experience. Keep it going lads.

SOCCER ACTION

The heading should read lack of soccer action as no games last weekend. The senior team are home this Sunday afternoon (10th) in Ryders v Arklow Town in a premier league game, support welcome.

GLENCORMAC UNITED CHRISTMAS DRAW.

Glencormac United are once again running their popular 5001 Draw which will take place on Saturday, December 7, in Plucks. First Prize is €2,000, second is €1,000 and third is €500 with lots more Cash Prizes on offer and are priced at €20. They are available from any committee member.
