- By MYLES BUCHANAN

PARKING arrangements for Wicklow Town have been confirmed for this Christmas, while a Best Dressed Shop Window competition will also take place.

Shoppers will enjoy two hours of free Christmas parking in all Pay and Display Parking areas in Wicklow Town from Monday, December 2 2019, to Wednesday, January 1 2020, inclusive.

There will also be free parking at the Seafront Car Park for the Christmas period and traders and staff can also avail of this.

The initiative on special Christmas parking arrangements was agreed by the Cathaoirleach and Members of Wicklow Municipal District.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Shay Cullen commented: ‘It’s an excellent opportunity to shop local for the festive season and enjoy all that Wicklow Town has to offer.’

Traffic wardens will continue to monitor and enforce illegal parking during this time.

Loading Bay restricted hours between 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday to Friday, will also still apply.

Wicklow Municipal District, together with the Wicklow Town Team, will sponsor a Best Dressed Christmas Window Competition. The winner and runner-up will receive a Christmas Hamper and Wicklow Town Vouchers. There is no need to formally enter the competition, but retailers must have their displays ready by Monday, December 9.

Wicklow Town Team chairman Dave Shannon said: ‘Each year our businesses make every effort to encourage customers to shop local and the Christmas window displays helps to create a wonderful atmosphere in the town.’

The winners shall be announced at the Wicklow Municipal District Meeting on Monday, December 16.

Throughout the rest of the year, there will be free parking from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a 15 minute courtesy period applies to all shoppers. On Saturday, there is two hours of free parking, while free parking operates all day on a Sunday.

Cashless parking is also available by using a Parking Tag. This service allows motorists to park by phone and extend their parking without returning to the vehicle.

Details of how to use the service are available on www. parkingtag.ie. Motorists can register online or on the Parking Tag mobile app.
