Study into an N11 bus corridor
PLANS are under way to conduct a feasibility study to consider short term solutions to the provision of a bus corridor on the M11/N11.
It follows on from talks involving the Wicklow Town Team, Wicklow County Council, National Transport Authority (NTA) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
The aim of assessing this bus corridor feasibility is to cut bus times to Dublin to an hour, to increase range of locations serviced and improve frequency of service.
It would also complement the park and ride service taking place at The Beehive.
Enda Luddy from Wicklow Town Team said: ‘We are delighted with the very productive meeting held with the NTA and we look forward to the next stage in this development. The Town Team would like to thank Deputy Stephen Donnelly for arranging and attending the meeting and also Colm Lavery and Michael Flynn from Wicklow County Council for their positive contribution.’
A number of transportation options are currently being considered. As part of the current Option Selection stage, Wicklow County Council are collaborating with the NTA to assess future public transport proposals under the ‘Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area (2016 – 2035)’ and their impact on the need for road improvements on the corridor.
Assessments are also ongoing to determine whether options such as bus priority and park and ride measures should be deployed along the existing N11/M11 corridor, or along new routes away from the current roadway. In addition to the existing roadway, new corridors are being considered where specific deficiencies exist along the existing route. Multiple transportation options and suggested corridors are publicly available for review and comment on the project website www.n11m11.ie.
