St Mary’s NS hosts third Santa Dash in Barndarrig
CLOSE to 160 people took part in the third annual Wicklow Santa Dash held at St Mary’s National School in Barndarrig.
A total of 159 participants crossed the finishing line, with 65 people taking part in the 10k event and 94 in the 5k.
This year’s charity partner was Saplings Special School for children with autism and learning difficulties.
There was also face painting, music, a kids dash and refreshments on the day to keep everyone occupied for the duration of the morning.
The fastest three men in the 5K were Mateusz Blaszczyk who was first, followed by Derek McDonnell in second place and Adam Neill in third. The next finishers were Jacob Hastie, Craig Armstrong and Paul Carroll.
The first five ladies home in the 5k were Hannah Nolan, Kelsey Brennan, Lisa Fletcher, Miriam Smith and Mary Fogarty.
Conor Miskelly won the 10K Men’s race, with John Foley second and Gerard Howard third. Gerard Foley as fourth, Conor
Levingstone fifth and Thomas Walsh sixth.
Mary Butler won the ladies 10K, with Orna Doyle second and Aoibhe McCarthy third. Aisling Buggy was fourth, Anne Quinn fifth and Elaine Nash was sixth.
RATHDRUM Rugby Club will host the 45th charity Hound Dogs clash this St Stephen’s Day, making it the longest running charity fixture of its kind in Ireland.
This year money raised from the game go toward Cancer Support.
The fixture sees both ex Rathdrum players return to take on the club they spent their youth with. Other players are also invited to play against the current first XV. The game is always hotly contested and an enjoyable game of rugby.
Refreshments will be available throughout the proceedings and following the match players and supporters will retire to the Coffin Shed in the Cartoon Inn for post match analysis, awards and a hearty bowl of the infamous chilli.
Charity buckets will be passed around with proceeds donated to local Rathdrum Cancer Support. Kick-off is at 1.30 p.m.
