CHRISTMAS STABLES

Children will love the chance to meet some of Santa’s animals, including Santa’s deer, pygmy goats, miniature donkeys, rabbits and guinea pigs, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Powerscour­t Garden Pavilion. A visit to the stables is free of charge.

CHRISTMAS MOVIE

Arklow Library will show a Christmas movie suitable for toddlers and young children aged up to seven at 10 a.m. For further informatio­n, call the Library on 0402 39977.

CHRISTMAS ISLAND

Pay a visit to Christmas Island in Rathdrum and enjoy an enchanted train journey to the fairy forest, before meeting, dancing and getting creative with some elves, good and mischievou­s, and topping the visit off with a visit to Santa himself. Places are available from 10.45 a.m. to 8.45 p.m. Tickets cost €22.50 per child (aged one to 12), €10 for infants (up to a year) and €16.50 per adult.

CAROLS AT THE CROSSROADS

The annual carols at the crossroads takes place from 6 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. in the Ballinabar­ney, Ballintomb­ay and Ballyteigu­e area. This annual community get-together is organised by neighbours on the four roads leading to the crossroads. Those attending are asked to wear a high visibility vest and to bring a torch.

CAROL SINGING

The public are invited to come along and join in some carol singing at Newcastle Garage (by the Christmas tree) at 6.30 p.m. Singers are urged to wear a festive hat if possible and there will be a free hot chocolate served in Centre afterwards. There will also be carol singing by Wicklow Choral Society in the Castle Inn at 8 p.m., where there will be a collection for Newcastle Community Centre.

GREMLINS

The classic creature comedy horror ‘Gremlins’ comes to the Mermaid Arts Centre at 7 p.m. When Billy Peltzer is given the cute and friendly little Mogwai, Gizmo, for Christmas, he is told never to expose it to bright light, get it wet or feed it after midnight. And when a glass of water is accidental­ly spilled over little Gizmo, Billy soon finds out why. Tickets cost €8/€6.50 and are available from the Mermaid.
