No replacement GDA for Jonathan Tallon
WICKLOW’S full-time staff of GDAs will not be receiving a replacement for Jonathan Tallon after his departure earlier this year with GPOs now expected to bridge the gap in terms of help and support for hurling in the Garden County.
Kilkenny native Philip Campion takes the lead hurling GDA role now according to Hugh Kenny’s report to Convention who added that ‘a replacement for Jonathan will now be in line with the appointment of extra GPOs in Wicklow to help and support the development of hurling in the county’.
The county’s GDA team of Paul Garrigan, Cormac Noone, Garrett Doyle, Darren Hayden and Philip Campion have specific regions in which they support clubs, primary schools, post primary schools and academy squads.
Hugh Kenny reminded clubs that it is their responsibility to contact the GDAs if they require help or support during the year.
‘Priority is given to clubs who attend the TURAS workshops,’ he wrote. ‘We held a meeting of all clubs in September where we provided a coaching update and review.
‘This took place in Ballinakill where our full-time staff made presentations on the ongoing work that we carry out as part of our Wicklow/Croke Park Games Development Plan.
‘Jonathan Tallon has relocated to work in Qatar for the foreseeable future. I would like to thank Jonathan for his work promoting hurling in County Wicklow for the last few years. A testament to Jonathan’s work appears this year with Wicklow entering two teams in the Celtic Challenge competition.
‘Philip (Campion) has taken over the role of leading hurling GDA from Jonathan. Kilkenny man Philip is well equipped to oversee further improvement in this area,’ added Hugh Kenny.
