COMMUNITY REMEMBRANC­EEVENING

Join us on Monday, December 23, at 7 p.m. around the memorial tree at the 1798 memorial (opposite Druids Well). Bring a candle or torch and take some time this festive season to remember family, friends, neighbours and loved ones who have passed away. You are invited to bring an ornament that honours a loved one that has passed away and place it on the tree. The tree lights up at night and is a fitting

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Most of our teams have finished up for the Christmas/New year period but will all be back early in the new year in preparatio­n for the season ahead. Currently we know we will be back in action in mid-February, but we will have to wait till the WDSL AGM to see if we will continue with Calendar Football or revert to winter Football. Either way action on the pitch will start back in February. We will keep you all updated as we get informatio­n. Our own 2019 Club Presentati­on will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020, in the community centre from midday till 2 p.m. More details to follow.

Our ever-popular Developmen­t Squad finished up for the Christmas break last weekend and the boys and girls of the Squad had a very welcome visitor Santa Claus, who handed out some goodies to those present. Thank you, Santa, you’re the best.

The Roundwood Fun Duathlon will take place on Friday, December 27, generously sponsored by Kavanagh’s Vartry House. This community event will provide a great opportunit­y for folk to shake off the Christmas cobwebs and test the new bikes that Santa brought while raising much needed funds for Roundwood Cancer Support Group.

The route will consist of a five mile cycle and a one mile run taking in some of the Vartry Reservoirs trails. For families and those of a less competitiv­e nature, there is a shorter walk which will be entirely on footpaths or on the Vartry trails.

WALKING GROUP

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour.

MARKET

The Roundwood Cancer Support centre is now up and running and is open in the Parish Centre on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. and they are currently looking for volunteers if you could spare some time in your week it would be greatly appreciate­d.
