LIDL GIVEN GREEN LIGHT TO BUILD BIGGER WICKLOW TOWN STORE
LIDL has been given the green light to expand its store in Wicklow town by knocking down the existing store and replacing it with a larger model.
Lidl Ireland submitted a planning application to Wicklow County Council in November seeking permission for the construction of a new discount foodstore supermarket with ancillary off-licence sales.
The proposed development involves the demolition of the existing single-storey discount foodstore with ancillary off-licence use, which measures 1,738sqm gross floor space with a net retail sales area of 1,286sqm. That building will be replaced with a two-storey mono-pitch roofed discount foodstore with ancillary off-licence use, that measures 2,485sqm gross floor space with a net retail sales area of 1,650sqm.
The application called for the redevelopment/reconfiguration of the existing site layout and car parking and the provision of free standing and building mounted signage, free standing trolley bay and enclosure, hard and soft landscaping, public lighting, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, roof mounted solar panels, surface water drainage infrastructure, cycle parking, modified pedestrian entrance, modified boundary treatments, connections to services and all other associated and ancillary development and works above and below ground level.
The proposed store will provide five additional full-time jobs, in addition to the existing 20 full time staff.
According to the planning application, ‘Whilst the proposed development does not constitute an extension of the existing building, we submit that it should be assessed along similar considerations, as the existing store on site has a long established pattern of use and activity which the proposed development will merely build on, similar to other recently permitted redevelopments of Lidl stores locally and nationally.’
Six conditions have been attached to the granting of planning permission by Wicklow County Council.
Before development commences, a full and detailed construction management plan and Demolition waste Management Plan shall be submitted to and agreed in writing with the Planning Authority, which shall include a construction programme for the works, a traffic management plan, noise and dust control measures and details of any construction lighting.
