Drama festival attracts top talent to Glenealy
THERE was a great festival of drama in Glenealy last week for the 65th ICA Wicklow Federation Drama Festival.
All the one acts and short plays were enjoyed by great audiences over the four nights.
Glencullen Dundrum Musical & Dramatic Society came to the Glenealy Festival for the first time and brought home the Premier Award for Best Group. It also won Best Director Chris O’Connor and Runner-Up Actress Niamh Rodin for its oneact play ‘The Rats’ by Agatha Christie.
Fiona Doyle, director of their other entry ‘Give A little Love’ by Alan Stockdill won the Adjudicator’s Award and Aoife Kelly won Adjudicator’s Actress Award.
The Molly Moore Shield for Runner Up Group was won by St Patrick’s Dramatic Society with ‘Billy’s Will’ by Seymour Cresswell.
Cast members Samantha Smith won Best Actress, Michael Stokes was Runner-Up Actor and Patrick Dunne won the Gloria Mullally Trophy for Best Moment of Theatre.
Delgany Dramatic Society won Best Set with their play ‘Before Dawn’ by Terence Rattigan, with cast member Peter Robbie winning Best Actor.
Peter, who wrote Delgany’s short play ‘The Game is a Foote?’, won a Merit award for Best New Play.
The May Condon Cup for an ICA Group or Individual was won by Ashford ICA with their one-act play ‘A Matter for Revenge’ by Ciarán Roche, while Balally Players won a Merit Award.
St Patrick’s Dramatic Society won the Terri Connolly Cup for Best Sketch/Short Play and the Adjudicator’s Award for ‘Medea’ by Chris Durang and Wendy Wassertein.
Cast member Amy Van der Linde won Runner Up Performance and Seymour Cresswell won a Merit Award for his role as an angel.
Ballycoog ICA won Best Sketch/Short Play by an ICA group and The Norah Ferns Trophy for Most Appropriate Costume with their sketch/ short play ‘Digging’ by Thomas Clare.
Cast member Mary Geoghegan won Best Performance.
