Six goals for Dunne as Dominican College runs riot

THE final of the Co. Wicklow Post Primary Schools Girls Senior Football ‘A’ Shield took place in Bray Emmets on Friday between Loreto College Bray and Dominican College Wicklow.
The game was played in bright sunshine on the Astro pitch with both teams aiming to play fast attacking football.
Loreto dominated possession in the first 10 minutes. However, a combination of a strong defence and a number of wides kept the game scoreless.
The opening score came at the other end when a Niamh Caffrey penalty rebounded to her and she found the net. Joanne O’Sullivan got Loreto’s first score, a 12th minute point.
Halfway through the first half Dominican held a narrow 1-1 to 0-3 lead but the second quarter was to have a decisive effect on the game.
As the game went on Dominican started getting on top in midfield and their lethal forwards added some fine scores with dynamic full forward Lucy Dunne scoring four goals in 12 minutes. When referee Philip Bracken blew for half-time Dominican held a commanding 5-4 to 0-4 lead.
The second half continued in a similar pattern to the first. Loreto had plenty of chances but few scores while Dominican added scores at regular intervals. On the few occasions when the Loreto attack got past the Dominican defence they found goalkeeper Leah Murphy in top form.
Loreto did score some fine points but could not get the goals that they needed. The fine attacking play of Dominican saw all six starting forwards scoring with wing forwards Naoise O’Reilly and Holly McSorley causing lots of problems with their incisive runs.
After the game Jim Murphy presented the trophy to the Dominican College captain Sarah Evans.
