Wicklow’s go at record breaking

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

WICKLOW and District Lions Club is making a unique bid for the Guinness Book of Records with a novel gathering organised for St Patrick’s Day.

The club has its biggest fundraiser to date lined up for Wicklow town this March 17.

The club has successfully applied to the Guinness Book of Records and has been granted permission to enter the largest gathering of people dressed as lions that has been witnessed anywhere in the world.

Lions President Sean Olohan explained: ‘This will be a huge, exciting event for the community of Wicklow town and surrounding area and will bring awareness of the wonderful charitable work that all Lions Clubs are involved in. Our motto is “We Serve”. In fact this “Be a Lion for a Day” is receiving great support from Lions Ireland and Lions International as nothing like this has ever been done before.’

The full lion costume will be available to buy and keep for €15 (child and adult sizes available). However, it is advisable to book urgently as supplies will be limited.

Anyone who would like to be part of this world record attempt should come along to the Bridge Tavern on Saturday, February 22 or Saturday, February 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and register for this once-off event.

The local Lions club is expecting huge interest and support from all schools and sports clubs in the area .

People can also register online either by visiting the Facebook page ‘Wicklow Lions World Record’ or by emailing lionsworldrecord300@gmail. com

The club hopes to see as many lions as possible turn up at Whitegates at 2 p.m. on St Patrick’s Day and, hopefully, roar their way into the record books.
