Simon remembered for his love of outdoors and horses

-

THERE is deep sadness in Coolkenno following the death of Simon Timmins at the age of 51.

He was well-known in the communities of Coolkenno, Boley and Shillelagh and many have paid tribute to him since his passing.

Simon had been a member of the Crabtree Lane Vintage Club since it began over eight years ago. He is remembered for his deep knowledge of tractors and other vehicles.

A post on the club’s social media described him as ‘a man of a quiet and unassuming nature’.

Simon was also known for his deep love of horses and would often bring a pony to the club’s field days to offer pony rides. He was gifted with his hands and had made horse carts and other items over the years.

Coolkenno GAA also paid tribute to Mr Timmins.

‘Simon was known to us all for his unassuming, modest and gentle manner. He would always acknowledge and greet everyone he knew in a positive and inoffensive way and he typified the decent characteristics of someone who never spoke ill of anyone. He had a deep intelligence and a great humour. He will be missed.

‘Simon’s life of 51 years, as many of us know, was dedicated to hard work and a quiet life, but his principal interests were equestrian related and anything practical and outdoors. He loved and cared for his horses throughout the years, a hobby that he inherited from his late father Dave and his uncle Ed Timmins.’

Simon is predeceased by his sister Sinead and is sadly missed by his loving sisters Caitriona, Orla and Elaine, his brother David, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and his large circle of friends.

His Funeral Mass took place on Saturday last on St Finian’s Church, Kilquiggan, followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May he rest in peace.
