Rotary quiz and dinner in aid of Wicklow Tidy Towns

-

WICKLOW ROTARY CLUB will be supporting the local Tidy Towns with a quiz night with a difference.

Dinner will be a key part of the night at Tinakilly House Hotel on Friday, March 6, while spot prizes will add to the excitement.

Rotary organises and supports events such as the Nell Healy People of the Year Awards, the Christmas Remembrance Tree, school projects in Wicklow, Foroige and the Youth Leadership Competition, as well as raising funds for a number of local charities.

‘This is really a social night to celebrate the work of Wicklow Tidy Towns and, there is also a quiz that won’t tax the participants but will add to the enjoyment,’ said Theo Phelan, quizmaster and member of Rotary.

‘This is a night to raise funds for the Tidy Towns and also to acknowledge the tremendous work carried out by the committee,’ according to Donal Magner, president of Wicklow Rotary.

‘Last year’s performance by the local Tidy Towns in winning a gold medal award in category E for towns with a population between 5,000 and 10,000 was a major achievement.’

Tickets for the event next week are priced at €30 or €120 for a table of four and includes a meal, quiz, spot prizes and much more.

Caroline Lynch, chairperson of the Wicklow Tidy Towns committee, has welcomed the support offered by Wicklow Rotary.

‘We are delighted to be involved with Rotary in this fundraising event and look forward to the night. Despite the cold weather, the 8,000 crocuses donated by Wicklow Rotary over the last few years are emerging at various locations around the town.’

A former chairperson of the Tidy Towns group also offered his thanks to the Rotary

Club for its ongoing support.

‘Rotary’s support in providing crocus bulbs and providing funds for the excellent ‘Wicklow Through the Ages’ series of murals in the town has been a great help to us,’ commented Mr Lawless.

Those wishing to attend the table quiz and dinner on Friday, March 6, starting at 7 p.m. Tinakilly House Hotel, should contact Andy Bolger (087) 9774526) or Donal Magner (086) 2607883.

If people can’t organise a table, they can turn up on the night and the Rotary committee will make sure they are accommodated.
