Garden of Ireland Vintage Car Club plans a busy year

THE Garden of Ireland Vintage Car Club is making plans for a busy year ahead now that its new committee is in place.

At its AGM, Mick Nolan was elected chairperso­n, Willy Carrick was elected vice-chairperso­n, Eieen Kennedy was elected secretary, Charlotte Carolan was elected treasurer, Ann Nolan was elected PRO, Alan Kearns was elected event coordinato­r and Shay Duffy was elected safety officer.

The club’s weekend away this year will be in Cork, from Friday, April 3, until Sunday, April 6. Anyone who wishes to sign up should call Eileen on 087 8329235.

The club is organising its two main events of the year, the Tom Kennedy Memorial Show and the Liam Kelly Memorial Garden of Ireland Run.

The Tom Kennedy Memorial Show will be held from noon on Sunday, July 12, in the Kilmacanog­ue GAA grounds.

A full day’s entertainm­ent for all ages will be on site (even for beloved pet pooches), and catering will be available at the clubhouse all day. The entry fee will be by donation and all monies raised will be donated to The Make A Wish Foundation, to help grant wishes for children suffering from cancer or other serious illnesses.

The annual Liam Kelly Memorial Garden of Ireland Run will be held from September 4 to 6, starting with a meet and greet in the Parkview Hotel in Newtownmou­ntkennedy on the Friday, sponsored by the hotel.

On Saturday, September 6, registrati­on for the run will start at the Grove Bar in Kilpedder at 9.30 a.m. There will be a leisurely drive through the Wicklow countrysid­e with a lunch stop along the route. The cars will return at approximat­ely 4 p.m. for the awards and there will be dinner at the Parkview at 8 p.m.

Motorists will leave the Grove Bar on Sunday, September 6 at 11.30 a.m. for the poker run sponsored by Kelly Recovery. Entry will be free for all cars registered for the Saturday run. Otherwise, entry will be €10 per car and two people (entry will be €5 per additional passenger).
