Coillte giving away saplings as part of National Tree Week
COILLTE is again partnering with the Tree Council of Ireland for National Tree Week, taking place from Saturday, March 21, to Friday, March 27.
This year’s theme is ‘Healthy Trees Healthy Planet’ to promote tree health and the important role that trees play in protecting our planet by taking on climate change and providing natural renewable resources. It also references the health benefits, both physical and mental, that trees and forests provide.
Now, Coillte and the Tree Council are urging people in County Wicklow to register events for National Tree Week.
Trees will be available for collection across the country through local county councils and the number of trees available in Wicklow will be based on demand. Coillte is urging schools, companies and community groups to register their events to ensure they get the number of trees they want.
Tree week events already confirmed in the Garden County include a forest bathing experience, organised by Ecowellness Consulting Ltd, in Knocksink Nature Reserve, Enniskerry, at 10 a.m. on March 25.
Stuart Hayes is behind a trees for pollinators event taking place at Valleymount at 10 a.m. on March 21 and a tree planting ceremony arranged by
Pat Winters takes place in Blessington at 4.25 p.m. on March 25.
Coillte, which has its head office in Newtownmountkennedy, will look to donate 30,000 native tree saplings during National Tree Week, including oak, birch, alder, and willow.
Pat Neville, Communications Manager for Coillte, said the group was ‘extremely proud’ to be teaming up with the Tree Council of Ireland for another National Tree Week.
‘National Tree Week reminds us of all the benefits of trees and helps bring attention to climate change issues, and the positive role trees play in our communities,’ he said.
‘We are encouraging everyone in County Wicklow to register their events and use the campaign hashtag #TreeWeek2020 to promote their events.’
