Tennis club

A ‘Volunteer Members Appreciati­on’ evening takes place at Wicklow Tennis Club on Saturday, March 7. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to confirm by emailing Sinéad in the office. For informatio­n on membership or any other tennis matters, email info@wicklowten­nisclub.com.

Free IT classes

Transition year students at East Glendaloug­h School in Wicklow town will share their digital skills by providing IT lessons.

Local adults are invited to bring their laptop, tablet or smartphone to the improver and beginner lessons which will feature ‘one to one’ tuition.

The lessons are free of charge and take place at East Glendaloug­h School on Station Road. There are seven lessons over seven weeks, taking place each Tuesday from noon to 1.30 p.m. and commencing on Tuesday, March 3.

Learners can choose their topic and learn at their own pace. They can also write down any questions they may have and bring them to class.

Lunch club

A reminder that the Roundwood Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday, February 28, in the Roundwood Inn at 1.30 p.m. Please let Molly at 0404 45407 or May at 0404 45178 know if you are interested in going.

Roundwood Active Retirement is organising a night out in the RDS on April 4 next for The Priests concert, which is in aid of the Peter McVerry Trust.

The cost for the bus and ticket will be €50.

Bingo

Fun Bingo will take place in the Annamoe Centre on Sunday,

March 8, from 3 p.m. Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend. It’s €5 per book and there are great raffle prizes. Come along and enjoy.

World Day of Prayer

Wicklow Parish Church will celebrate Women’s World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 6, at 8 p.m.

This year’s programme comes from Zimbabwe and is titled ‘Rise – Take your mat and walk’. It is based on Jesus’ encounter with a person who, although positioned for healing, had not acted upon the opportunit­ies given.

Jesus asked: ‘Do you want to be made well? You are faced with this life-changing question. What are you going to do? Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk.’

RNLI AGM

The Annual General Meeting of RNLI Wicklow Fundraisin­g Branch will take place on Tuesday, March 24.

The venue will be in the De La Salle Pastoral Centre, Wicklow

town, starting at 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The entrance is via the St Patrick’s Church car park.

Knock pilgrimage

There will be a pilgrimage to Knock on Saturday, April 25, leaving Laragh at 7.45 a.m. and Roundwood at 8 a.m.

The cost is €70 per person, which includes bus, breakfast and dinner in Tyrrells Pass Castle. All money to be paid in full before April 1 to Susan at 087 6273032.

Music and dance classes

Learn traditiona­l Irish music and dance with an award-winning Comhaltas branch (guitar, fiddle, flute, tin whistle and grúpa ceoil). Classes are held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday nights in St Laurence O’Toole NS, Roundwood. The second term runs from January to May. Performanc­es, workshops and outings take place throughout the year.

Chair yoga fundraiser

Join the fun at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Thursday, March 12, at 10.30 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. followed by a First Responders demo and light bites at 11.30 a.m. Booking is essential. Contact Louise on 087 6032202.

A fundraiser yoga class will be suitable for everyone as the practice can be done on the mat (standing, lying, seated) or with the chair (standing, seated). Everyone will receive the benefits of yoga (improved strength and flexibilit­y, balance and calmness) while providing much-needed funds for the Laragh First Responders. You do not need to attend the class, you can come along from 11.30 a.m. to see a demo for the First Responders and to enjoy a light bite and a cuppa.

If you cannot attend, a donation before the event will be greatly appreciate­d. CFR Laragh are a group of people who volunteer to help our community by responding to medical emergencie­s while the ambulance is on its way.

These funds are needed to ensure these volunteers can continue helping the community.

Organic vegetables

An Tairseach Organic Farm and Ecology Centre will host an organic gardening course during the months of March and April.

The teacher will be Wendy Nairn, who is one of the founders of the organic movement in Ireland and has over 30 years’ experience in this area. Wendy is passionate about producing fresh and nutritious vegetables using sustainabl­e and wildlife-friendly methods. She is well known for her extensive knowledge of organic, sustainabl­e methods of growing.

This is a six-week course that will run once a week for an hour and a half. The classes will take place in the classroom. If the weather is good, there may be some demonstrat­ion time in the garden. It takes place on Tuesday, March 10, 24 and 31 and Tuesday, April 7, 21 and 28, from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Learn how to grow organic vegetables at home in both small and larger spaces. This course will teach you the basics, how to create optimal soil conditions, how to sow seeds and how to nurture and protect your plants. Medjugorje

A pilgrimage to Medjugorje will take place from Roundwood on October 7 for seven days at a cost of €679, fully inclusive.

There was a discount of €100 if paid in full by December 13, otherwise €200 deposit secures booking. This trip will be accompanie­d by a spiritual director. The accommodat­ion is close to the church.

Yoga classes

Small group yoga classes in the Satyananda tradition have started in the Pastoral Centre, De La Salle, Wicklow town on Mondays. Classes will include: Asana, exercises to stretch and strengthen; Pranayama, breathing techniques; Yoga Nidra, deep relaxation and meditation and stillness.

Class one runs from 5.45 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. in the form of a very gentle exercise, with a greater emphasis on relaxation and meditation. Class two takes place from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This class has space for four people with some level of fitness and who wish to experience yoga at a deeper level. The cost is €12 per class, with a commitment of €60 on the first night. For further details, contact Anne Marie at 086 8367578.

Sarah McCormack talk

Mountain running World Cup champion and endurance running coach Sarah McCormack will be present at the Brockagh Centre, Laragh from 9 a.m. to midday on Sunday, March 22.

There will be a two-hour run on the trails that surround Glendaloug­h and Laragh. Sarah will offer tips on running form and functional­ity, ascending, descending, pacing and kit.

This will be a relaxed run, with opportunit­ies to chat with Sarah along the way.

After a short break to change clothes, the group will have tea or coffee and biscuits. In conversati­on, Sarah will share her running story with the group, along with advice on training, racing and mindset.

There will be time for questions and chats. Trail and Talk is catered specifical­ly for women.

Level – improver to advanced with moderate terrain and the distance will be determined by the overall pace of the group.

There is a 30-day refund policy, less the Eventbrite booking fee.

Sosa Fitness

Come along and get ready to ‘Dance Yourself Happy’ with SOSA Fitness in aid of Brain Tumour Ireland in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Saturday, March 21, from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

All levels, including beginners, aged from 16 to 100, are welcome. Tickets available on Eventbrite for €10 or at the door.

Mass servers

St Patrick’s Parish is in the process of recruiting altar servers for all masses in both Wicklow and Rathnew.

They are looking for boys and girls from 3rd class upwards.

Full altar serving training will be available for anyone who may be interested. Please leave names and phone numbers in the sacristy or parish office.
