Gritting carried out 14 times in the past month
WICKLOW Municipal District members received an update on the different works taking place in the county as part of the monthly meeting held last week.
District Engineer Kevin Scanlon, informed all present that the 2020 roads grant allocation for the county had been received. The elected members are due to meet this week to agree on individual jobs.
Roads and footpath works carried out over the past month include the repair of drainage blockages in various places. Gritting was carried out over 14 nights, one of which was a double run. Ten road opening licenses were processed and agreed, while three road closure applications were processed.
The Brittas Bay Biodiversity Project won Silver at the All-Ireland Community and Council Awards 2020. The first cut is already complete and two more are to follow.
‘There was a great response to the sea buckthorn survey at Brittas Bay. Now there are plans to reduce and remove it,’ commented Mr Scanlon.
A Part 8 project for Ballinteskin is currently on display and reports on planning applications and compliance with applications continue to be issued. Wicklow County Council staff also continue with estate taking in charge reports and inspections.
Councillors heard that the quotes for Merrymeeting footpath works are due back this week, with the works due to start in the next two weeks. The traffic calming road crossings at Newtownmountkennedy are complete and works are continuing on the lights. Ducts and cables are installed for the Ballynerrin playground lights. Staff are now just awaiting the delivery of lights.
The crossing at Brittas Bay is substantially complete. The path and crossing are done and lights have been ordered.
