Top Irish authors are taking part in Wicklow’s third Way with Words

BOOK lovers are flocking to Arklow and Blessingto­n for the third Way with Words festival.

Organised by Wicklow County Council’s Art Office and Library Service, the festival has readings, talks and workshops in a variety of genres to suit every literary taste.

Highlights of the festival include author Niamh Boyce in conversati­on with Neil Hegarty about her latest novel ‘Her Kind’ at Arklow Library on Friday, March 6. Niamh will also lead workshops for writers or those who aspire to write which will explore how true stories can inspire fiction. Saturday, March 6 will also feature Alvean Jones and ISL interprete­r on sharing stories through sign in Arklow library at 12.30 p.m. Also, in Arklow Library, Melatu-Uche Okorie will discuss her work and book ‘This Hostel Life’ with Dr Ciara Kelly at 7.30 p.m. The event will also include performanc­es from the adapted opera of the work by INO.

In Blessingto­n Library, writer Christine Dwyer Hickey will be in conversati­on about her work and having her novel ‘Tatty’ selected for Dublin One City One book 2020 at 7.30 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 10, writer Sarah Moore Fitzgerald will give a talk in partnershi­p with the Arklow Writers Group and guests. The event, which starts at 7.30 p.m., will focus on how to start writing and keep going. The Arklow Writers Group will host an open mic night afterwards.

Fifty years of the popular Sunday Miscellany will be celebrated in Blessingto­n Library on Friday, March 13 at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, March 14, Catherine Fulvio will talk about her cookbooks and share hints and tips in Arklow Library at 2 p.m.

Author of ‘The Butcher Boy’, Pat McCabe will be in conversati­on with Dermot Bolger at 7.30 p.m. at Arklow Library.

Outreach events will also be held in a number of local schools with poet Colm Keegan. Several partner events will also take place in Bray, Greystones and Baltinglas­s.
