AGB’s Jimmy given Hall of Fame Award
MEMBERS of Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney donned their finery and headed for the Arklow Bay Hotel on Saturday night for the club’s presentation dinner dance.
Club secretary Jimmy Dunne welcomed the 148 guests and thanked them for their continued support of the club.
After the meal, John Murphy, Chairman of AGB, thanked all the players for their dedication throughout the 2019 season and wished them all the very best of luck for the season ahead. He spoke fondly of the season past and the great pride AGB had on reaching the county finals. He wished the senior team the best of luck this year and also wished Damien Redmond the very best in his future endeavours.
Outgoing Ladies Chairperson Margot Hughes gave a wonderful reflection on all the hard work done throughout the Ladies section before passing the mic to Irene Keogh, the incoming Ladies Chairperson. She congratuled all sections on the year past and looked forward to what’s to come.
After these uplifting words, it was time to hand out the silverware.
Players of the Year presentations were made to the men’s senior team, men’s junior B team, U20s team, senior ladies team, junior ladies team and minor ladies team. Damien Redmond, John Murphy and Gary Hurley made presentations to the men’s teams while Margot Hughes, Damien Redmond and James Furlong made presentations to the ladies teams.
The Player of the Year Awards were presented to Jack Hamilton and Laoighse Geoghegan (senior), Nicole Byrne ( junior),
Gary Fennell ( junior B), Thómas Lynch (U20), Eve Rogers (minor) and Ben Fennell (young player).
John Connolly was announced as AGB’s Club Person of the Year in recognition of all his tremedous help and support, as he constantly works away in the background.
Damien Redmond was presented with a team photo of the AGB senior men’s finalists after some words by Philip Healy, Chairperson of AGB’s men section, who reflected on all Damien’s hard work and dedication over the last five years.
It was a special moment when the Hall of Fame Award in Wicklow GAA was presented to the club secretary, Jimmy Dunne. There was a standing ovation as the long-standing servant of GAA accepted his prize. Juvenile Chairperson Aidan Ward spoke highly of Jimmy’s contribution to football, both with AGB and countywide with Wicklow GAA, and there were few dry eyes in the house as Jimmy thanked the crowd and said that his friends in AGB were more like family.
