A BRIGHT FUTURE!
Knockananna clubs unveil plans
KNOCKANANNA GAA and Camogie clubs are looking forward to a bright future with the launch of their development plan for 2020 that took place in O’Keeffe’s bar in the village last Friday night.
A good crowd turned out at the local hostelry to hear club chairman Paul Lancaster outline the plans for the club that will see significant upgrading and renovation of the current buildings as well as the construction of a walking track around the picturesque pitch in the shadow of Lughnaquilla.
‘We had a very successful launch night for our Knockananna GAA and Camogie clubs’ development,’ said club member Ronan Byrne. ‘In 2020 we hope to commence an extension onto our existing dressing rooms complete with meeting room, canteen and public toilets as well as complete a walking track around the pitch and also finish the carpark and upgrade sewerage.
‘For a while we’ve being acutely aware our facilities needed upgrading and it’s great that we have put together a committee with a long-term plan to do so.
‘At the moment we have secured €55,000 in grant funding and we hope to fundraise €45,000 this year to complete the above projects. The pitch has never been so busy with teams so it’s important we can deliver for the community as the GAA is a huge part of the village.
‘To fund our project, we are looking for donors to contribute €26 per month (€260 in total) over a 10-month period. We have a payment plan in place where people can sign up to a direct debit.
‘All monies raised will be solely for the upgrade of facilities,’ added Ronan.
With hurling starting in the club this year as well it’s going to be a busy 2020 on the Carlow border.
