CATTLE SALE - FEBRUARY 26: A slightly improved trade for all types of cattle with a stronger demand for forward store Bullocks and Heifers. Cull Cows were in demand and met with a stronger trade. Sample prices as follows.

SHEEP SALE - FEBRUARY 29: A very strong trade for nice quality butcher and factory lambs. Lambs in the 40 - 45kg bracket were also improved.Top price - 55.5kg made €140; 50-60 Kg making from €120€140; 40-50 Kg making from €109€119; Lighter stores making up to €108; Cast ewes making from €80€128.Ewes scanned in lamb make up to €175.

There was plenty of farmer feeders around the ring for the stores here the lighter stores clean ewes and weathers 32kg to 35kg sold from €93 and €94 up to €105 while the 36kg to 40kg sold from €105 up to a tops of €118 with hgts 40kg upwards store hgts sold from €116 up to €130 depending on quality and cleanlines­s.

Cast ewes really setting the blaze here the heavy ewes out to a tops of €152 with the store ewes 60kg to 90kg sold from €90 up to €135 with some of those very forward fleshed ewes north of 100kg selling from €128 up to €145.

In the brood ring we saw once again plenty of enthusiasm around the ring for the in lamb ewes with the clearance sale of ewes today the 180 ewes meeting with a very brisk trade and they sold from €165 up to €205 while we had a number of other in lamb ewes 3 & 4 yr olds with the majority selling from €150 to €180. Ewes with single lambs at foot younger ewes sold up to €198 while there was plenty of aged ewes with singles from €150 per unit with younger ewes with doubles up to a tops of €225 and overall a full clearance across the board with all classes.

CATTLE REPORT - FEBRUARY 28: Spring fever is still to be felt around the ring in Tullow today with over 400 head of cattle on offer and 200 head of calves.

The beef and forward bullocks the heavier forward FR sold from €1.70 per kg upwards to €1.95 with some exceptiona­l heavy continenta­l types pushing up to €2.10 to €2.15 per kg. The forward stores a very active trade from both feeders and farmers with those FR starting from €1.85 upwards with the HE and AA from €1.90 to €2.05 while the continenta­ls pushed all the way up to €2.35 per kg. We also saw the lighter store bullocks an amazing trade with a lot of custom around the ring for these class of bullocks especially the 380kg to 430kg and the HE and AA sold from €1.95 to €2.10 per kg with the continenta­ls up to €2.90 with the majority between €2.20 and €2.60 per kg and a very lively trade.

The beef and butcher heifers from €2 to €2.15 per kg with the store heifers the HE and AA €1.95 to €2.10 with the continenta­ls selling from €2.05 for the plainer black LM types with the continenta­ls up to a tops of €2.90 per kg with the majority €2.20 to €2.60 per kg and a very lively trade for those 380kg to 440kg heifers. We had a number of lighter bulloks and HE heifers 280kg to 320kg and they sold from €2.10 to €2.20 per kg.

Very lively trade for cows with the feeding cows from €120 with the kg for the FR up to €350 with the kg for the heavier FR cow with the continenta­l cows the younger fitter cows selling from €200 with the kg up to €600 with the heavy cows today out to a tops of €800 with the kg.

We also had a very large calf sale with the FR calves for shipping anything from €10 up to €40 with some better fleshed FR calves selling from €50 up to €110 per unit. The HE and AA the lighter HE heifers sold from €80 up to a tops today of €205 for the stronger HE heifers with the HE and AA bulls from €120 up to a tops of €250 again the stronger calves meeting a livelier trade. We also noticed the continenta­l calves selling out to a tops of €350 and overall a good lively trade across the board for all calves.
