RACE NIGHT FOR MNDA

As most of us all know, Patrick ‘Wackers’ Byrne was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease last March. Patrick has battled this disease bravely and received fantastic support from his family, friends and the community of Kilmacanogue and afar.

In a world where we like to give out about services and support (and we know that is the case for a lot), Paddy has also received fantastic support from the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association of Ireland, who have recently provided Paddy and his family with a Van with Wheelchair access and a battery powered wheelchair is pending.

Paddy would now like to give something back to the association and with that in mind, he would like to invite you to a race night to be held in Plucks on Friday, March 27, with all proceeds raised going to this wonderful association. There will be eight Races on the night followed by the Auction Race.

Some very kind sponsors of each race have already come forward which include the Ricky Thomas Tarmacadam Chase for small mares under five foot, the O’Keefe Paving and Landscaping Gold Cup (for the well-groomed steeplechasers like Ray), The Sugarloaf Concrete Handicap, The Mr NCT Bray National, The East Coast Upholstery Maiden Handicap (for thoroughbreds that retired to soon like Alan Prunty), The Prendergast and Maguire Financial Services (for millionaire owners), The Graham Carey Chase, Urban Flooring Handicap (For horses with no mane) and the Carr Family of Kilmac (for horses that have not won a race in 30 years).

To own/sponsor a horse is €20 and to buy a Jockey or to be a trainer is €10 with prizes on offer for each race winner. This is always a great night’s entertainment with betting on your horse that night and it is hoped it will receive great support.

KILMAC CFR SAY THANK YOU

The Kilmac CFR Committee would like to thank everyone who supported their annual quiz fundraiser in Pluck’s last week. There was a huge turnout and a very entertaining evening was enjoyed by all. The team who claimed first prize was made up of Kilian Kelly. Eamon Purcell, Des Hinchen and Niall Cunnane so well done to them.

There was also a novelty bingo game on the night along with a raffle with a great selection of hampers, gift vouchers etc, sponsored by businesses and local residents too many to mention but which the group would like to thank most sincerely.

A special thank you to Shane, Caroline and staff at Pluck’s for their hospitality and also to Quiz Master ‘Winker Watson’, with Ray on IT and Patricia on the scoreboard. Once again Sharon Carey did a super job in making sure everything ran smoothly with her organising skills so thank you Sharon, it is very much appreciated by all at Kilmac CFR.

The funds raised on the night helps to ensure that our public access defibrillator scheme and CFR group can provide this great service to the community going forward be we must also take on board volunteers are always needed.

If anybody would like to get involved with the group and become a volunteer as a community first responder, they would love to hear from you. If this is something you would like to do or are considering, you may express your interest by emailing kilmaccfr2020@gmail.com.
