Serious gardening required this Spring

-

WITH the recent spell of warm dry weather everything is literally bursting out of the ground, so there’s some serious gardening required over the coming weeks.

Hedging plants have already begun to grow steadily and soil conditions at the moment are ideal for planting.

If you would like to have your garden adorned with roses during the summer now is a good time to get planting.

It’s also a great time of the year to prune back bushes and flowers and some experts advise people to also get rid of some new growth already visible as doing so will encourage even more, stronger, healthier growth.

A small amount of rose fertiliser can also be used around the base of your plants.

Now is also a good time to have a look at window boxes and experts say it’s good practice to replace compost. Herbs and spices can be grown in small areas too which makes them ideal for boxes or raised beds.

At this time of the year the likes rosemary, sage and thyme can be planted.

Now is the time when you need to start looking at your lawn too as grass will begin to grow now and that will accelerate dramatically over the coming weeks.

When it comes to the garden the best course of action is to plan how you’d like it to look at the height of the summer and then get some advice from your local garden centre as to the best approach to take now to ensure your best laid plans are realised.

It will take a bit of work now but the end result will be worth it.
