Over €1.2 million invested in Wicklow by retail chain Lidl
LIDL Ireland invested over €1.2 million in the Garden County last year, according to a new report.
The discount retailer, which has four stores in the county, supported local suppliers and external partners across Wicklow in 2019 to the tune of €1.29 million.
The Lidl Ireland 2019 Impact Report details the economic and social impact that the company has made within the communities it serves throughout Ireland.
Figures released for Wicklow include: €6,803 raised for Jigsaw, Lidl’s charity partner and 1,173 kgs of food donated to FoodCloud charities in the county, saving them an estimated €3,519.
Lidl’s four stores also employ 78 people in the county. Four local Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) clubs were also awarded jerseys and equipment through the Lidl LGFA Club partnership.
Managing Director of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, J.P. Scally said: ‘I’m delighted and incredibly proud of the significant and positive contribution Lidl has made to our customers, the communities that we serve and our environment in 2019. It echoes our overall commitment to make lives better, something which we as a retailer have been striving to do since we arrived in Ireland in 2000, while still offering customers the best prices in the market.’
This year is also the 20th anniversary of Lidl’s establishment in Ireland. In that time, the retailer has opened 163 stores and forged partnerships with a network of Irish suppliers, sourcing €1 billion worth of produce across Ireland.
