DEALING WITH THE NEW PAYE SYSTEM - EMPLOYEES

As most readers are aware the old P60 and P45s are dead and buried and the internet has taken over the PAYE system.

The best way to approach the new system is to register with Revenue PAYE Services in My Account.

To register you will need the following:

Your PPS Number, Date of Birth, Telephone Number, Email address and Home Address.

You then suggest a Password and confirmation of your new Registration on My Account will be sent to you in the post within about one week.

There is also a facility for instant registration where you verify your identity with a Driving Licence and your P60 for 2018 or a recent Revenue document with your details on it.

P45 Replacement: If you change jobs your employer just enters your date of leaving in the system. You can then view this by clicking on Manage your Tax on the PAYE Services Section and then clicking View beside the latest employments.

P60 Replacement: It’s called Employment Detail Summary. Once in My Account click Review Your Tax on the PAYE Services card. Then view Employment Detail Summary 2019.

Check on Create Document. Then go to Print and the document will have your Income and Tax Details with your name and address and the Revenue Harp.

Apart from end of year services you can use My Account during the year to see the current year pay and the tax position. Log into My Account and click Manage Your Tax 2020 on the PAYE Services card. Then click View beside the employment listed.

Also, if you have elected to receive correspondence via the internet you can view your Tax Credit Certificate as used by your employer or pension provider by going to My Documents at the top right-hand corner of My Account. If not on this system you should have got a copy of your 2020 Tax Credit Certificate in the post in December 2019.

Quite a few areas of Wicklow have no access to broadband due to the terrain. Also, some people have no computer or computer skills. Revenue has addressed these issues by allowing taxpayers to telephone them at 01 7383636 about any PAYE queries.

When you ring Revenue you should have your PPS Number to hand and ideally a copy of the most recent Tax Credit Certificate that you can locate.

In practical terms as a first step, if you are in employment then talk to the person who operates PAYE in your workplace. Revenue has provided extensive guidance to employers on the new system and it has bedded in fairly well at this stage.
